The 8th might be official release date, but conceivably it could be played as an exclusive sooner.. There's precedent for that

Hey, more. Don't quote me.

I think it's legit. I think things are Signed, Sealed, Delivered. Choice of single still TBA.

I sense we're going to get lots more info over next weeks. :hyper:

Like, track by track previews, "In the Studio with U2" articles, filmings/shoots, etc. For sure, this stuff will be written in these coming weeks.

UNLESS the plan is to keep a lid on everything until single drops. Some kind of press emabrgo. But that's still not far off!

"The Light" is not dead

This post will self destruct

I think the band really like what they pulled off with Cedarwood Road. It's big, heartfelt, but still rock and roll. Raw, aggressive. A template to build upon.

:up::up::up:

Damn damn damn! All very interesting and enough to get me excited.

I hope they do a big/normal press lead up to the album, including the stuff you mentioned about in-studio bits and what not. I loved that about NLOTH, missed it about SOI.

It's definitely happening. These listening parties are for the press. It's just a question about when they can publish

Nice, that's good to hear. A press push solely focused on the album and music - rather than the release method - is just what the band needs to do for this record IMO.

So we're 58 days away then from hearing new music.....unless they shit the bed again.

As for Cederwood, I always thought it was a very boring song. The opening riff was OK, but lost everything during the verses.

I hope Edge can come up with better for SOE.....but we won't know till we hear it

Cedarwood is my favorite song off of SOI so this is fantastic news.

I think it is up there for me as well... the heavy guitar + acoustics on the intro riff gave me huge War vibes... I remember smiling like a dork the first time I heard it.

This is another point where the JT tour could really help out SoE promotion-wise.

Remember when they unveiled 'The Miracle' for the first time ever, in a world-wide broadcast live performance which was obviously relatively rusty compared to the final version they ended up with on the I&E tour?

Well, imagine if they debuted a live performance of the lead single of SoE at a few JT shows before the eventual release? By the time it's officially out, they can do some promotional TV/radio etc performances with a song that they've already practiced in front of tens of thousands. It would likely sound stronger than if they keep it wrapped up until September 8, and they can use it to flaunt the live-sound/raw production of SoE.

I realise there are only two shows before the 8th, so maybe they won't bother. But still, conceivably the september leg of the tour could start with the single on the 3rd :hmm:

Also, like many have said - thanks for the updates! Things around here are a lot more interesting with your posts :)

:hmm:

we'll supposedly be hearing something on September 8, if the current plan sticks.

that's all I got..

Thanks for this. I'm a little confused at the specific date, though. They have almost the entire month of August off between the European and second North American legs, the latter picking up on September 3rd. The third show of this leg is on the 8th, in Minneapolis. Is there a significance here I'm not aware of?

You did mention airplay could happen sooner so my instinct still tells me an official album announcement would make more sense during the break.

Any more info on the rumored December 1st album date? Because that's another one that has me skeptical.

This is purely a guess, but I think they like to set aside their Augusts for vacation.

Gives them a month off to rest before they ramp things up with another JT leg, album promo, then another tour in the new year.

Not sure there's any significance to September 8, or what it represents.. could be any or all of the following
- single released to web/itunes/streaming services
- single released to radio
- single & album announced

I don't have any info on specific album release date.

this time last year we were just getting into imminent release mode.. and dissecting what may be true, and what might be misdirection. good times.

Must say, I'm really looking forward to track-by-track descriptions/previews. They got me so hyped up for NLOTH, and it was definitely a downside of the surprise release of SoI that we couldn't get that build up.

I'm very curious to see descriptions of Red Flag Day and The Best Thing in particular... Hopefully we'll see these previews before too long!

If it is indeed locked in, with a single less than 2 months away, you can bet that Q and/or Rolling Stone will get some big exclusive in the coming weeks.

Hot Press will have a u2 cover story for the Dublin gig. May feature a scoop or two...

SOI was released Sept 9

So SOE has to be released in September as well ?

They're still touring JT30 well into October. It would be more sensible to wrap the tour up and then release new music, then again many of their decisions this year were bizzare so ...
