Random Music Talk CIX: Thank God We Have Limes

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Did I??

Martha absolutely rules.

LMP and Imps were both great blokes too.

About as actively as Laz did. Which is to say: Nah, we were supposed to meet up, but halfway through my drive from Chicago to LA I was offered a job and had to start the next day, and I wasn't off work until like 8 PM, and you had some other plan or you had to be back somewhere, or something, I don't remember exactly the details, but it just didn't work out.

I won't speak for cobbler but personally I find the idea that someone can bombard the political/news forum with inane out-of-context pseudo-intellectual/religious platitudes and be rewarded with their own sticky thread (the ONLY one in the whole forum) to be

a) a big ol lazy fail by the forum mods
b) making him think his drive-by uninformed "opinions" have a lot more substance and weight than they really do
c) giving posters (newbies especially) the idea that he has some sort of special status and/or that the mods endorse what he says in a unique way
d) really fucking annoying to see it every single time I go in to FYM.

You ever notice how no one ever posts there except him? And that, since it's all contained in one thread, you don't have to constantly see new Sunday Dispatch threads popping up every week? And that since the thread itself never moves, it's a lot easier to ignore? :)

Really I can't think of a single good reason why that thread should exist and more than once I've thought of absolutely trolling the hell out of it with nonsense to the point where it gets so derailed that it gets closed. I get that the reason it exists is because he was creating threads to post this crap but the mods really should have enough of a backbone to say "stop" instead of featuring it prominently in what is one of the more substantive forums we have here.

Seriously, why waste your time on something so easy to ignore? I never even check it (I assume the same could be said for 99% of FYM regulars), but I guess now I should to make sure people aren't being intentionally dickish?

I get that such a thread can easily be ignored, but it also begs the question of whether every regular or semi-regular in that forum is entitled to a running log of their musings.

In his defense, because for some reason I feel the need to do this, there aren't a lot of religious threads in that forum any more, even though that's one of its intended purposes. If he just wants to post a weekly thought piece with religious tones for the week, that's not actually something that absurd. I have people on my Facebook who do that. Obviously that thread predates Facebook, but I recall that at one point the threads did garner conversation. By being merged and stickied that basically disappeared because, again, no one reads sticky threads, because no on respects authority :angryfist:.

If he were just keeping some kind of daily diary of his random thoughts, that'd be one thing. But he just shares scriptures/religious themed stories, etc.

How about a generic Christian chat thread? The Goal Is Soul is specifically for posting about U2's faith, not the individual's.

Yes, there is a forum called The Goal Is Soul and I'll bet you forgot it existed.

I don't know how LMP would react to seeing me in real life after all the Unpleasantness. :(

You know what, we shit on Bono for cramming too many words into his lyrics, but Born to Run just came on at the burger joint I'm at and the whole thing is just so overblown. "This highway's jammed with broken heroes on a last-chance power drive!!!"

Of course, it's one of the best songs ever, so.

I've never been one to get too upset about people overstuffing lines with lyrics. They're more enjoyable to sing that way.

I couldn't understand anything Bruce said in Born to Run until maybe the 900th time I heard it.

Nsw can rest easy that I don't say anything about my Russian being rusty or how far away Boston is in real life. I know it was causing him to lose sleep, or at the very least his eyes to nearly roll out of their sockets.

He can drink this entire fucking forum under the table.

No joke.

Too much to reply to, big night for the Cock Force. The 50 Cent(?) .gif representing the NSW/Laz encounter was pretty damned great.

Since NSW comes to town occasionally, it would be fun to get a sizable pow-wow of locals together. At a "neutral" location, of course.

I'd be down.

My last trip in, I didn't do shit but work, it was pretty hectic.

I'll be in for a few days in August, but that will be brief and pretty packed work-wise. However, I'll probably be out for a week in October, that might be a good time to get something organized going.

Holy shit that was fucking awesome. Had never heard it LIVE before.

If I recall, they had only ever played it live on the Permanent Waves tour, which was in 1980.

I've seen a few videos of it because I know I won't get to see them :)sad:), and because that band is physically breaking down, I probably won't ever get the chance. But to see a band with a drummer suffering from severe tendonitis and a guitarist suffering from severe arthritis play THAT song for the first time since they were in their twenties, and for it to sound that good.

So jealous. :p had you seen them before? Any other highlights? Ramble on!
