I won't speak for cobbler but personally I find the idea that someone can bombard the political/news forum with inane out-of-context pseudo-intellectual/religious platitudes and be rewarded with their own sticky thread (the ONLY one in the whole forum) to be

a) a big ol lazy fail by the forum mods
b) making him think his drive-by uninformed "opinions" have a lot more substance and weight than they really do
c) giving posters (newbies especially) the idea that he has some sort of special status and/or that the mods endorse what he says in a unique way
d) really fucking annoying to see it every single time I go in to FYM.

Really I can't think of a single good reason why that thread should exist and more than once I've thought of absolutely trolling the hell out of it with nonsense to the point where it gets so derailed that it gets closed. I get that the reason it exists is because he was creating threads to post this crap but the mods really should have enough of a backbone to say "stop" instead of featuring it prominently in what is one of the more substantive forums we have here.

I almost automatically ignore any stickied thread I see on any message board I have ever been on. I can't possibly see how this is effecting your life enough to bother sparing more than a single thought on, let alone considering trolling it on several different occasions.

He has every right to make religiously themed threads. He was making them too often. They got merged, just like Mrs Garrison's 'stories'.

Why they got sticked, I don't know. If it bothers you, PM a mod to unsticky it, I'm sure they'd consider it. But trolling is trolling, even if you're doing it because something annoys you. Posting in a thread to bait the OP is trolling. I just can't seriously see how this is so troublesome to anybody. All he does is post some kind of religious think piece once a week. The only part of your complaint I think has much credence is that its stickied.

Yeah, I've never understood this either. But what's more annoying is that years ago I responded to one of his posts, and he PMs me to tell me that it's really not suppose to be a discussion thread, but just a place for him to post his ideas, quotes, etc.

Right, my biggest beef is with the fact that it's stickied. I think the thread itself is dumber than a pile of rocks but he has the right to make any thread he wants to as long as it’s not blatantly off topic and follows the forum rules. But it being stickied very obviously has inflated his opinion of his “status” around here and I think it really makes him think that his posts are somehow more important or more valuable. He has a very pretentious attitude, makes drive-by pronouncements and then never replies to reasoned counter-arguments or acts with dismissive disbelief that someone would challenge him. Having his own sticky thread doesn’t help matters.

Like I said if I came into FYM for the very first time as a noob and saw this one thread stickied at the top I would assume the guy is either a mod or someone extra-important since he’s got the only stickied thread and is the only one who regularly posts in it. It implies a lot about him and the mods and the forum in general, none of which is true.

This all goes without mentioning how it got there in the first place. I’m totally fine if he insists on posting this stuff that it stays in one mega-thread that gets bumped to the top once a week and then falls off, but I don’t at all agree with sticky-ing the thread as I consider it to be borderline spam, and placing it at the top as the most prominent thread in the forum is a reward for behavior that is arguably against forum rules.

I have no idea if there’s some special reason for this thread being stuck there. I realize I could ask the mods to un-stick it but at the same time I feel like it also could be more of a hassle than it’s worth if he starts posting this crap all over FYM.

He used to make a new thread for every Sunday Dispatch until they were given a dedicated thread. I can't believe anybody gives enoughof a shit about them to troll the thread. Trolling it lets him know that you're reading it and thinking it's important enough to respond to, which is probably his goal.
