OK... Sports promotions.

Likely.. SportsCenter cross promotion for a few days? Yes, many bands have done this or late.

NFL opening night? No.

Broad NFL cross promotion? No, they use different networks who choose their own music for highlights.

A song being picked up for highlights? Sure, why not.

Long shot but certainly more plausible than the already booked NFL opener? MLB post season... They've had deals with Springsteen and Pearl Jam over the past few years to cross promote, and the timing works, so it's plausible... Wouldn't involve live performance, just a video mixed with highlights every night and in commercials, as well as using album cuts throughout the broadcast.

Much more likely than the NFL, but still unlikely as I imagine an agreement would have to have been made no later than the end of the month, and likely talks would have to be ongoing already.

But yea... NFL opening night? No.

U2 will need something that will work worldwide. And performing or having their music played in a commercial of the NFL is nice in the US but let's not forget Europe and the rest of the world please people.

U2 will need to realize and act worldwide and not just focus on the US as they tend to do too much.

I've been off the grid a few hrs... But...progress on a single wouldn't necessarily conflict with issues surrounding the album and tour..if I had to read anything into this video news, I'd say somebody laid down the gauntlet/read the riot act/whatever..and so they are tryin a thing with a single first, see how they feel about it all type deal..but that's total speculation of course.
