If you want to see a rock band play a great live set w/o gimmicks go see an Editors show. Problem is that the North Americans will never catch onto these guys.

YES! Editors is the greatest band I've discovered in the past few years!:heart: . But I'll only catch the shows if I'm overseas. Zero chance of an Editors show in BR this year (or the following year, I'm afraid).

Are they well known in Europe and US?

Huge in Europe but still fairly unknown in the US at this point.

Love Editors...have seen them every visit to the US. Disappointed the original lineup is already out of place, but I did really like the new album. I hope they catch on more in the US and hope they continue to tour here.

They actually remind me of U2 circa Joshua Tree at their current stage.

I'm more envious of The Who in 68. Never got to see them with Keith.
Late 60's/early 70's they were the best live rock band ever to grace our fair planet.

Absolutely!!!
Quadrophrenia had tape loop problems (where have we heard this? :D) but when it was good it was a great live show.
Tommy with the Jouhua Light Show images, and stuff at the Filmore East was amazing (JLS on the understated side but it balanced well) And during the My Generation instrumental medely they played "Naked Eye" for the first time!
It was "what the hell is that?!!?!! In the *best way* possible way! :hyper:

Unfortunately we were up in the part of the Balcony where the amplification was coming at us from the stage AND bouncing off the overhead ceiling down to us. My friend stuck tissue in her ear...I was all like "...I want to experience it all!!!" (and "macho-like", too, like "peh, I don't need no tissue"!). Both ears throbbed for about 3 days, and I never lost the mid-high ?"whine" in one ear. :uhoh: Luckily it's never been bad enough ( thank goodness) to drive me loco.

But the most glorious for me (and Tommy was damn glorious & so were parts of Quad) was the Who's Next Tour! omg!
I hadn't heard anything about "Pure & Easy" being a full song in itself. Not from an interview done with Townshend in the NYTimes on him and the Life House film/shows/Project while it was being worked on, before Pete nearly lost it, and project fell apart. The only thing was, of course hearing, "...excepting one note pure & easy, playing so free like a breath rippling by..."at the end of The Song Is Over.

When they started P&E (2nd song in) It was like hairs standing up on the back of my neck...omg that's !!! And I was at the very top row in the center the first night. 15th row for night 2.

Only regret was never hearing The Song Is Over- live.:( I'm not sure they ever did it..... except I caught something years back about possibly Roger singing it at one of his Teenage Cancer Trust Benefits.

There was a MSG show they did in ?76 or 79....2 different part ( I have it on a casstte I snuck my tape player/recorder inside :D)
2 songs -- one I think was called "Dance It Away" and then Pete ( whethter he was frustrated with someting OR inspired but he did a solo that was on of the most Jaw-Dropping I'd ever heard from him. I really have to get it into a CD/Tape Player and hook it up to Garage Band in order to get copies and preserve SUCH incredible music! I rememebrto pursue it ,then crappy situations happened ..so .back on the "back Shelf" again.

*THANKS*, Herwson! Been thinking of this for like 6 yrs! :der:
I'm gonna FINALLY put a note/rmender on my cell phone to start asking around how to get this thing done. I have access to Garage Band....it's the CD/Tape Player I have to find out about!

[ Being open to falling in love with new music/bands - you get a chance of rockeing up to or floating up into the stratosphere at some points because anothor incredible performer(s)...has/have taken you back there again! :) ]

ETA >>>Have any of you ever heard the full (expensive 6 CD set) "PsychoDerelict" Radio Live performance ?

It's what Pete ened up with tweeking Life House for decades.
One of my Fav free-form DJ's said at the time paraphrase "if this had been released ___ back...This would be on the front of covers of ___ & ___ .Pete would be lauded again as a genius! Instead he had to foot the bill and have it pressed by himself."

I have the small "Life House" Elements which is a small sample of what was from it.

It looks as though they are starting g to ignore the US a little more. They can't seem to quite breakthrough here and I know it annoys Tom to no end.

I saw them in Denver a few years back in a little theater when they had out out An End Has A Start and even at ghost time you knew they were meant for stadiums. It was like the roof and walls of the place were going to fall down because it just couldn't hold the size of their sound.

Editors are pretty huge here  They sell out the Ziggo dome quite quickly, lining them with acts like Pearl Jam or Muse. Great show and damn good music!

Are they one of those bands who are bigger outside of their country of origin than inside?

I don't live in the UK, but they've never struck me as being one of the biggest bands there (based off music publications etc).

There are a lot of great bands around to fill up the big u2 less gap. To discuss these bands is quite useless. There are so many u2 fans with different tastes around. listening to new bands is always worth giving aan try to listen to. Personally I don't like Muse and KOL at all.

Editors have been slated a little in the UK more recently for poor songs by some and I think Tom had a bit of writers block the last few years. I love their earlier stuff and I saw them at Glastonbury in 2007, it was a great show and especially at Glasto with the sun going down. I will have to check out their last few records to see if they are any good. I heard A Ton Of Love by them quite recently and I'm not sure if I like it or not.

Going back to a supposed album in the works, I had a feeling the band was going to lock things down after the whole Billboard article to prevent people from reading too much into what anyone has said... however, I'm starting to feel a little doubtful of a June release.

I have a feeling that in probably two weeks time everything is going to come out all at once: a digital release in the summer followed up by a physical release later on in the year.

Or at least they goddamn better

Album won't be out in June or anytime soon. Anytime in 2014 would be a miracle.

We've been disappointed for more than 4 years now concerning a new album. It won't be out this year. The band is lost in selfconciousness. Coldplay robbed the releaseschedule of the band with the rumoured 6 live dates in six cities. .. Poor u2.

If it is, then I will be really glad to have made the trek to Moncton. Just so I can say "Hey, awesome ... I saw their final concert."

(although even if that was their last album, I wouldn't necessarily assume they wouldn't still tour or do some one-off shows)

I already have. I've said it before but I'm pretty sure NLOTH was U2's final album.

It really is awfully quiet. I was fully optimistic, even after the delay.

But something feels off. Inhave nothing factual to back that up, and the McCormic tweets and other buzz since a year ago was upbeat, but there may be other issues at play.

I'd still be stunned. But I've for the first time accepted this as a possibility. And the term "creative differences" may apply.

*cough*Larry*cough*

I agree with Irvine...this may stir up some conversation on here...

Larry is putting out some serious bad vibes - see the link below to the Mike Peters-Alarm tribute. Adam looks pretty uncomfortable and Larry (an actor) isn't acting positive at all for a birthday tribute.

VIDEO: U2 Pays Tribute to Mike Peters & The Alarm

Like most of you out there, I too have loved and invested a lot in this band and feel they really need to lighten up and just start releasing their work and enjoy the position they are in. They will always be big and people will always want to see them. But this is no way to treat your fan base (aka "the people who have given you a great life.")

Look at other elder statesmen bands like Simple Minds - as I really admire how they still tour, blog their thoughts and aspirations, release music (of varying degrees of quality) and generally seem to just enjoy being artists with a rich history/playing live. Why can't U2 do something like this??? Bono, call your old friend Jim Kerr. He may not beat you on the charts these days but he seems to be beating you in approach.

This is getting ridiculous. Most stores now don't even carry U2 on their shelves. Crummy knock-offs Coldplay are wiping the floor with U2 and Bono thinks they are buds and seeks out their advice.

Whatever happened to "we might lose some of the pop kids but we don't need them" or the U2 that claimed to aspire to "abuse their position and f*ck up the mainstream"???

This band is turning into a joke. Get off your high horse and get on with it while you can breathe. Edge wake up, Adam speak up, and Larry and Bono get over yourselves...

Sorry, I feel much better now. :hyper:

Coldplay might be wiping the floors with U2 in sales, I guess, but in terms of "are Coldplay actually good" I know the latest two songs ive heard from there were absolute shit.

That said, I loved 'A rush of blood to the head' which was a solid album.

I find myself cautiously optimistic about a new U2 release. Its possible and I think it will happen sometime in the fall. I really want to go see them again and blow the roof off of whatever arenas they decide to play. Until then im quite happy getting lost in the music with XMU or ALT Nation bands (aside from KOL). :sexywink:

XOXOXO

I'm worrying about Larry. He really doesn't look good in this Mike Peters video.
