Nice. Go, leftie pinko commies :hi5: .

I've lived in so many deeply conservative areas (southeastern Nebraska, the state of Wyoming, small town South Dakota) that even my generally moderate left views could be seen as "radical" :p.

I'd love to get out and do more actual active work, but it seems hard to drum up support and help sometimes.

I'm kinda like that, too, sometimes. I work at least one day each weekend a lot of the time, so sometimes if I happen to have a weekend off, or a Saturday or Sunday off, and my friend calls asking if I want to go out and do something...sometimes I kinda want to just hang out here instead. I stayed with my sister and her boyfriend for so long when I first moved back here, and so I was used to the noise of his videogames on the weekends, and I work a lot of weekends, and now that I'm in my own place and can do/watch what I want on the weekends and on days I don't work, it's just so nice to wake up and just relax here at home. Or sleep in.

And when we do go out, again, we pretty much go to all the same places. When I do hang out with my friends, I much prefer the weekends when all we do is just hang out at the one's apartment and watch movies/play games. My friend feels like she needs to have us run all over the place, I'm perfectly happy just hanging out at her place. That's not boring to me at all, but she's always afraid it is.

That's another problem I have, too. The concert I'm planning on going to in St. Paul is the first one I've ever gone to with friends. Most of the time many people don't know who the hell half the artists I listen to are!

So we're bored, but we don't have the motivation to do anything about it. What do we do?

At least you guys pay attention to politics. I take the military stand/viewpoint of the main elections "It doesn't matter who's voted in, we still have to do what they say."

:reject:

Politics isn't for everyone. :) And certainly it's not like all Canadians are uber-involved, either. But lately I see our conservative politicians playing the same dirty tricks that yours have for years, and honestly, it scares the shit our of me, we CANNOT become you. The US has so many positives, but frankly, the Reagan era, the Christian fundamentalists and Karl Rove's tactics have ruined it all, and I'm genuinely sad to see what you've become. :(

But it DOES matter who's voted in - if the person's an idiot, your country is going to go to hell in a handbasket, and so many rights and laws would be changed for the worse. I don't pay a ton of attention to politics, but I know enough to place an educated vote in both countries. Frankly, the Republican candidates in the US all freak the hell out of me.

Exactly. The majority of Americans voted George W. Bush in TWICE. (Only once, if you're a Democrat).

The majority of Americans, I hate to say it, are IDIOTS. Well, sorta. I do believe the country would've been even worse for wear if Kerry had won in 2004.

The Republicans are idiots too. Especially Mitt Romney. He's a douche. :shifty:

(I've been paying attention recently... I don't like any of them, but him the most. And it goes way back to when he lived in Utah in 2002.)

Yea, America is going to hell in a handbasket.

My opinion? They took the concept of monarchy, changed a few things, and named it democracy.

maybe tomorrow afternoon I'll go shopping...

Yes to everything VP said about Spanx. I like my body just fine, but sometimes you need a little smoothing out beneath certain clothes.

And there are all sorts of brands that have their own version of Spanx now. Just look for stuff that's described as "body shaping" or something. I found some off-brand "Spanx" tights at Target that are reversible (black/gray), and they do a nice job of smoothing out my poochy bits around the middle.

Definitely. i couldn't even find any stores around here that sell genuine Spanx. I went to Sears and found a body shaper, and spent less than half of what i would have paid for Spanx - I think the Spanx garment would have been $80-something, I found something for $29.

Sweet! Yeah, you definitely want to pick your guy/gal carefully.

 As it stands, it seems that Romney is the best choice of a bad bunch, and that Obama will ultimately win.

I'm afraid, actually. I firmly believe that Jack Layton was for real - a genuinely good guy in politics, an idealist who wanted the best for everyone, and I think that those qualities finally translated to the Canadian public, hence the giant gains in the last federal election - he was trustworthy, and people got that. I think that he was one of those exceptional people who attracted people who might not necessarily vote for the party, but who liked him as a person. I don't think he's replaceable. His death still makes me incredibly sad, to this day. :( I've never been that affected by the death of a public figure before. He was a true hero.

ugh - it's the poochy middle bits that I hate!
Anyways, I'm off, wearing the red ones
Have a good night - maybe I'll be back here at 11:30pm tonight, a little tipsy!

The poochy middle bits = the bane of all existence.

I try to say nice things to the poochy bits at least once a week to make up for the shade I throw it frequently.

Some of you girls will have seen this on Twitter or Facebook already, but...

Assuming all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed (can't be 100% sure, my manager's been off sick for a day and a half), then as of Monday morning I will be a full time CIBC employee :D

I haven't caught up on twitter yet, so...YAY!!! CONGRATS!!!! They are very lucky to have you. :)

So we're bored, but we don't have the motivation to do anything about it. What do we do?

 I don't know! I'd happily move to a more active, hopping place, but again, there's that pesky money thing (and I'd probably want to find someone there I knew so that I'm not wandering around lost and confused and whatnot).

Frankly, the Republican candidates in the US all freak the hell out of me.

Ditto. Honestly, I don't understand how ANYONE can possibly support any of those nutjobs.

Exactly. The majority of Americans voted George W. Bush in TWICE. (Only once, if you're a Democrat).

LOL, I was going to say, the 2000 "win" is questionable at best. 2004? Can't explain that, other than we seem to have a tradition of not changing our leaders in the midst of a war. And Kerry wasn't exactly an electrifying candidate.

I still voted for him over Bush, though, no question. I was 16 in 2000, so I wasn't old enough to vote yet at all. But if I had been, I sure as hell wouldn't have voted for Bush.

The majority of Americans, I hate to say it, are IDIOTS. Well, sorta. I do believe the country would've been even worse for wear if Kerry had won in 2004.

I don't think it would've been worse. It just wouldn't have really gone anywhere more worthwhile. But would some of the stuff (lack of proper response to Katrina, economic collapse of '08, etc.) that followed have happened had Bush not been in office, I wonder?

I don't want to go so far as to say the majority of Americans are idiots. I like to have a little more faith than that. I think unfortunately the extremists and corporate interests have taken too strong a hold on the country and ANY politician, no matter what party they belong to, is going to be struggling at best or crap at worst because of those nutjobs.

I also think it'd help drastically if we had more than two party options.

The Republicans are idiots too. Especially Mitt Romney. He's a douche. :shifty:

(I've been paying attention recently... I don't like any of them, but him the most. And it goes way back to when he lived in Utah in 2002.)

That's right, you would have a bit more knowledge about him.

I've just always compared him to a used car salesman. He's the prototype for the "packaged politician". He's got the "look", the fake grin, the money, the ability to say whatever appeals to the people he's around at the moment (which changes within the span of a day-Jon Stewart the other night clocked it at 3 and a half hours recently between when Romney said he was fine with the whole contraception thing in one interview to when he said that he supported the idea some politician had about limiting access to contraception in another. 3 and a half hours.).

He's desperately trying to appeal to a base that clearly doesn't want him (because they know he was part of the healthcare plan in Massachusetts, and that's close to Obamacare, and OH MY GOD WE CAN'T HAVE THAT!), and he's horribly out of touch with the average person (Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, AND Craig freaking Ferguson all jumped on the clip recently of him talking about how he's not much of a NASCAR viewer, but he knows a lot of people who are team owners, on their respective shows).

And yet somehow he's the best option that party has, because Gingrich is a fucking pompous asshole who desperately needs to be punched in the face, Santorum's...batshit insane, to put it politely, and Ron Paul is semi-sensible at times yet too freaking weird and very "old man ranting" at others. :crack: Great lineup there, GOP.

Since he died, I've had this image open in a tab on my desktop. I can't close it. It inspires me, and makes me think of thing things we have to work toward, in this country.

Oof, I hear ya on the pooch. Have fun!!

 Awesome. I try not to dwell on it too much, but yeah, I've definitely got a pooch that isn't going away any time soon. :sigh:

Forgive my confusion, but I thought you were already working there full time? Either way, congrats!! :hi5:

I actually went to our local riding office to sign a memorial for him, and spoke to the candidate who had lost in the election in the spring - I'd met him during the election and had spoken to him briefly on twitter, and he remembered me! Went out the back to get a half-filled out volunteer card for me. He's an amazing man, he lost narrowly last time, and I will do everything I can to see he's elected next time. Anyway, i was fine through all that, and then he brought me a teddy bear made of linen to sign that was supposed to go to Jack's 3 year old granddaughter. I lost it. That was hard.

Sarah was with me, and she couldn't even sign the bear.

^haha. I don't know where the piercing comment came from but I too got mine done when I was 18, but that was way back in 1991. And yeah, I still have mine, but the only one who ever sees it is my husband

It was my comment, and I'll have had mine a whole 10 yrs this summer. The only way it ever gets seen anymore is by Mr CK. Although Lil' CK was quite interested in it while I was preggers - he loved to check out my belly and "look" for the baby  .

Oh, and I'm late to the party about your heels, zu, but I liked the 3rd pair best. :D

I wasnt old enough to vote when Gore became President (yes, I'm a Democrat), but I voted for Kerry in '04. Not that he'd have done much better than Bush, mind you. And of course I am a big Obama supporter. I have to watch though, I try to keep my politics offline. But I do follow politics very closely, and it's kind of a hobby for Mr CK & I...it's how we ended up dating actually!:lol:

We had a conversation about peeholes around Christmas time, right?

Yay for Drea! Congratulations.

My neck is a-hurt.

I should actually just say this. I used to be very active in FYM, I could listen to the views of others, and comment rationally, even if their views differed from mine. Maybe I could learn from them! Or something. Over the past few years, I've gotten more and more politically involved, and my tolerance for conservative views has decreased exponentially. Since then, I've made myself scarce from FYM, because I ought to be able to contribute something more valuable than "you're an idiot!" but at this point, I just can't.

I was old enough to vote in 2004, actually, but I refuse to register. I refuse to vote because, in my honest opinion, I deserve better than to vote for the lesser of two evils. :D

I wasn't either. I was only 15.

I love Obama. But, yea, I refuse to pay attention to politics (the recent Replubican thing is just funny to me), because to me it is nothing more than a contest to see who can get the worst insults in during the campaign.

:reject:

We actually got into a discussion about Ron Paul a week or so ago, about how he appeals to young people because he's apparently not with the establishment, and close to being libertarian, but we looked up his platform, and he's TOTALLY REPUBLICAN!! His stance on women's/reproductive rights is appalling, for one thing, ARGH. :|

IMO, there are very few libertarians, there are mostly just republicans cloaked as libertarians...they want gun rights, but reproductive and gay rights are appalling to them. That's not a real libertarian, that's a republican who wants to seem unconventional. See: Iron Horse.

Real libertarians strike me as hedonistic. The closest I've ever seen is Bill Maher. I don't agree with him in all areas, but at least I can respect him for being consistent.
