You remember Bodie from The Wire? One of the best characters, and he's all up in this video. Also one of my favorite posthumously released Pac songs:

YouTube - Ghetto Gospel

That's a sick video and song. Tupac's posthumous releases are so hit and miss, but there are some real gems. Have you seen Oz? The guy who plays Bodie is in that too; that's the first show I saw him on, actually.

GAF, I don't know if you're psychic, or if you knew about this and were for some reason suppressing the information, but look what link just dropped into my Facebook mailbox:

The Mo Song- Our Movember charity song | Hannah-Rei

I don't get it. They release The Beard Song and I grow a beard. Now there's The Mo Song (which I thought was a sequel to The Gay Song when I first saw the title) and I'm supposed to shave back to a moustache? Make up your mind, ladies.

It's nice that they're raising money to fund prostate cancer awareness, and on that note, I wouldn't mind checking their...uhh...to see if maybe they have a...umm...never mind.

I have not seen Oz although I do remember there being a lot of buzz about it back in the day and I'd like to watch it eventually. But since I just devoured The Wire, and it was such an intense TV watching experience, the next show I check out will probably be something a little more lighthearted.

It's just not the same without the live visual.

Probably a good choice, going for something a bit lighter. When you're up for it, I highly recommend Oz. It's interesting, at least after watching several series on HBO, how much the actors overlap between shows.

Wait, are you FINISHED with The Wire? Did you mention that before?

Obviously that wasn't directed at me, but once I started watching The Wire, I was through the entire thing in a few weeks...it was kind of crazy. The show's addicting though.

Indeed. Just finished it last week. The most engrossing TV show I've seen in a long time and definitely worthy of all its hype and praise. Omar is easily one of my favorite fictional characters of all-time. He's just the best.

Even though the scope of the story kept getting bigger and bigger, I think, as a whole, Season 1 is still my favorite. It did such a great job painting a picture of all the characters and their world.

Season 4 and 5 were still fantastic, especially 4 with the introduction of the school kids and Chris and Snoop and Marlo taking power. But, honestly, I felt that everything after Stringer's death was slightly anti-climactic. Stringer's story arc was one of the biggest things driving the show, and once he was gone it was just....a bit of a let down. The episode where he bites it (the second to last episode of Season 3) was as intense an hour of TV as I've ever seen. It started with that Old West style showdown between Omar and Brother Mouzone, had Stringer and Avon's ominous final conversation at the apartment, and ended with Omar and Brother taking him down. Unbelievable.

what's cool is that everyone seems to have a favorite season. I'm a big supporter of Season 2, which a lot of people find weaker because it tangents away from the Barksdale thing. I'm absolutely IN LOVE with Beadie Russell, so that might have something to do with it.

And yes, that S3 episode is one of the all-time greats. I hated Stringer Bell, BTW. Guy had a vision but no ethical or moral code.

I think Season 4 was my favorite overall. And, it's funny that Stringer Bell was your least favorite character; he was my favorite until he got gunned down. Sure, he didn't really have a moral code, but the guy was brilliant, trying to bring economic theories into dealing. If he would've balanced it out (and not been an idiot, giving money to Clay Davis and shit like that), the Barksdales would have been on top forever, I think.

Since this a random music thread, I want to ramble on a bit about the opera I saw last night. And Jesus, if one more person tells me Andrea Bocelli is an opera singer, I may have to get rough. Although I consider myself an opera novice, I've heard and seen enough to know that.

Anyway, it was an opera from 1724, by Handel, who is way up there on the list of Martha's fave composers. Tamerlano is full of short arias that showcase the singers' skills, and boy howdy did the singers last night have some skillz. First, there was Placido Domingo, who is as amazing as you think he is. This is the second time I've heard him sing, the first being in Die Walkure. He really is all that and a cup of coffee. I've always prefered his voice to Pavorotti's. He's about 65, and my God, he is stunning when he sings. Really masterful.

So, to be onstage with him, you'd better be good. The other five singers were nearly as good. (No one can be as good. Ever.) The countertenor was amazing. Countertenors are really high, so at times, it was hard to tell who was singing, the male countertenor or the mezzo-soprano. I was up in the cheap seats, and I'm blind as a bat, so good luck being able to see which one was singing. The mezzo was singing a role originally written for a castrato. Yes, it's what you think it is. So she was playing a man, and she did a damn fine job.

I loved the music as well, and the harpsichords were kept under control somewhat. The strings were lovely and it all sounded so great.

So there you go.

Bocelli is an opera singer like Michael Buble is a jazz singer.

If Bocelli weren't blind as a bat, no one would have given him a record contract as an opera singer. Nice voice and all, and yay for him etc etc etc, but come on.

I think he has., actually.

Which, I guess, technically makes him an "opera singer." But he's like a pop opera singer. A popera singer!

Right, so I need to get acquainted with this Real Estate album in a hurry. They're playing the inside stage at Mohawk Friday night, opening for Brackett & Co, a band I haven't heard but which includes Scott Bracket, Travis Nelsen, and Brian Cassidy, all of Okkervil River fan. Tickets are being sold at the door, but it promises to be intimate. And cheap.

Make this happen, me.

 Not a harpsichord fan, I presume? I've always had a weird liking for the instrument myself.

So, am I missing something huge with this Real Estate album? I listened to it once earlier this week, and it was good, but I didn't think it was amazing or anything...I'm more a fan of the Woods sound, if we're going to compare Woodsist bands. I dunno, maybe it just needs more listens or something. It probably also doesn't help that it's totally a beachy, summertime album, and it's so not summer here.

This whole college thing isn't doing you any good, is it dear.

Nope, not at all, and I'm glad my $20,000 a year is going towards nothing.

In case that's a serious comment, it's the name of the record company they're on, also the one that the band members from Woods founded.

 That's what I figured.

So, I finally gave M.I.A. another chance this weekend, and something clicked. About 2-3 years too late, but whatever, I guess. "Bamboo Banga" has been on repeat for the entire day; it makes me wanna shake my booty and party.

I'm home for break. For one week, I can download without a limit. What new albums should THE PEEF DAWG! be checking out, gang?

1. Fuck you, are you skipping classes this week or do you have none? I still have classes on Wednesday. Then again, we have finals until December 23rd too...2. I downloaded BK-One's Rádio Do Canibal this weekend, which is a Minneapolis DJ's album. He blends Brazilian music to make beats for a bunch of huge names (at least in Twin Cities hip-hop...Slug from Atmosphere, Brother Ali, Blueprint, I Self Devine, P.O.S.) plus Black Thought from The Roots has a killer track on there, "Philly Boy." Definitely check it out.

1. Cut a hole in the box.

2. We have the whole week off (our winter break is only three weeks). This is my first time home since school started.

3. Interesting. I've not heard of most of those people he makes beats for, either. I'll look into that one.

5. Lots of great songs here

I can't fucking wait to go home Tuesday morning. Of course I have this research paper due Tuesday night that I haven't started. I'll probably do it on the train. Yay.

Music.

Sorry, freshman aren't really my style.

Not bad. I think I went home in October my first year. Now, I haven't been home since spring break in March, will be going back for a few days this week, and then for a little over a week in December/January. And, probably won't go back until spring break again after that...I dig Minneapolis a lot more than home, it's safe to say.

I'm psyched to go home too. Free food. And good food too. Which means I'll eat something other than pasta or pizza for a few days. Fuck yes.
