Fuck.

My computer is beeping at me. Like, from internally, inside the tower.

I tried to open a video from my digital camera in WinAmp. WinAmp has been malfunctioning recently, freezing whenever I try to play music in it. When the video opened, the beeping began. The video, however, played. Beeping kept going, so I hit the restart button. Computer restarted normally ... then when my desktop loaded, beeping resumed. I shut it down properly, loaded ... same thing. Now it's just beeping at me.

Fuck. I've no idea what to do.

(Shut up, Khan. I'm stressed and don't need your inevitable "hurrr get a Mac" comment.)

Is the fan OK? My computer used to beep at me whenever the fan got too clogged with dust (which was remedied over the summer, I might add).

The beeping is not coming from the fan, I'm pretty sure. I've had problems with the fan before - it's the newest item inside my computer, albeit two years old at that.

how many beeps is it? is there any kind of pattern like beep beep beep, beep beep beep or something?

how many beeps, as well as whether they're long or short, will most likely tell you the issue.

Jen!

No, consistent. Gap between beeps is about as long as the beeps themselves.

The computer itself seems to be working fine. It's just beeping and annoying me.

Yeah, come to think of it, you would notice if the fan was completely stopped. That's what would happen to me. It would grind to a stop and the tower would start beeping as you described.

Hurr, get a Ma...

Oh, never mind.

hmm, that does sound like the cpu is overheating. put your hand on the case near the fan. is it abnormally warm?

No, case is cool.

I just tried playing a video. It worked fine, but I noticed then that the beeping is coming through the headphones as well as from within the tower.

 How strange. Is the sound card functioning?

Maybe I'll be getting that new computer sooner than I expected.

Just opened the side of the computer and can't quite identify what's beeping. A flashing light would help. I think it's nearer the bottom, in the middle, but that's no real help. Bah.

poke it with something long and metal :D

or mash it with a hammer .

Axver, go outside and swing it around by the cord. My dad did that with this old VCR of ours and it lasted another few months.
