I'd consider that song firmly entrenched in the Full Shit category on that album.

"'Til Kingdom Come" and "A Message" are truly the only ones who come out unscathed. "The Hardest Part" barely qualifies because of the amazingly hilarious video.

The Hardest Part is an awful song with a funny video; still an awful song though...okay it's average and boring at best; on a good day I'd give it 2 stars

It's awful, but whenever I hear it, I think of that old woman being swung around in circles... hopefully flying off of the harbor and into the water, taking Chrissy with her.

That alone makes it a fantastic song.

The Hardest Part is the ideal video to watch with the sound off. I have no idea what the song has to do with the video at all either...

But if the lyrics you use are all that one can squeeze out of one's skull, you've gotta use what you've got.

I sometimes have periods like that, where I've got so many uninteresting, universal, simplistic things going through my head, that all the complicated, interesting stuff can't get a word in edgways.....sometimes it flows, sometimes it doesn't.

I love Swallowed In The Sea, cause it's not meant to be anything more than what it is, it's not meant to dominate you and turn your mind upside down, you just let it happen....and it can be pleasant.....

Failure to remember "Low" is your greatest regret.

I still contend they could have dodged a lot of shit with that as the first single and a revised tracklist.

Yup, fully agree.

There was no way they were gonna top AROBTTH, but a different tracklisting and single selection and the album could have been an easy 4 stars.

If they don't have good lyrics make the song instrumental; I mean Life In Technicolour is much better without any ltrics.

I don't think they're a complete rip-off of each other but that mash-up is awesome and would of been a better version of the original

But are the Grammys that prestigious that it would matter to a respected musician like Satriani? If his motives are anything less than pure, I'd say he'd be more likely to sue after sales of the album went through the roof. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong, but I can't see a Grammy nomination being that big of a factor.

It's the exact same chord progression. Thing is, it's a rather rudimentary chord progression that flows very naturally, so it probably wasn't copped.

But make no mistake, it's the same chord progression.

Don't know if it matters or not to Satriani, but obviously it's more of a higher profile right now with all the nominations Coldplay just received. That said, I agree - why would he wait so long to sue?

Regardless what you or I think of the Grammys, they are still the biggest music awards handed out.

Definitely. All I'm saying is that I don't think anyone who's all that serious about music puts much stock into the Grammys.

All that said, I'm not saying that Coldplay intentionally ripped him off. I can't even imagine what it would be like to be in the creative arts, trying to create something original, while attempting to forget everything you've heard (or read, or seen, etc) over the years. It could be that one of them heard a snippet of the song once years ago, and it stuck in their subconscious, and came out when they were writing, and that they genuinely thought it was original. I can see how that could easily happen.

Just read about this news item and thought I'd pop in here.

As much as I despise Coldplay, I have a hard time believing they listen to Joe Satriani, or would go so far as to lift something from him. They like to rip-off much cooler musicians.
