Back when they made awesome albums and had b-sides and Bono's voice wasn't shit and they did the Lovetown Tour.

What a boatload of fuckyeah.

Sometimes I get sad thinking about what U2 could have done if they'd done a natural progression from Lovetown to Achtung Baby and not decided to reinvent themselves. Imagine Achtung Baby without the Eurotrash feel to it. No guitar effects but the mild overdrive from Lovetown and some delay. Now imagine Until The End Of The World with those guitars and with pounding, furious drums (like God Part II?). Or imagine Mysterious Ways without wah guitar and with a Desire-esque beat. Etc.

I could so get into this. And there'd be no meandering TTTYAATW nonsense or forced pseudo-emotional So Cruel or whatever.

The best part is that Acrobat, the album's best track, would be essentially unchanged. It dates from a Lovetown soundcheck.

10 posts to go on this thread for me!

I saw some really fucking weird Australian souvenirs today. You want me to surprise you with one later this year, Ax?

Haha, sure. Are they as bad as the 'roo balls made into coin pouches that Ali found?

Oooh, post 66,656. It looks very close to 66,666. At least, if you're legally blind it does.

I'm amused at how well this 66,666 thing is working out, actually. I thought it wouldn't come until about the middle of the next thread, rather than at just the right time to make a new thread.

Yeah. Wasn't Love Is Blindness older, too? I might be wrong on that. But you could just take 3/4ths of AB and Lovetown-ify them. That'd only leave 3 songs needed. She's Gonna Blow Your House Down could've been one of them. Slow Dancing could've been another. She's A Mystery could've been #3.

The problem is that it's late. And I want sleep. And Khan left temporarily. And you're limited!

Love Is Blindness is the child of Acrobat and She's A Mystery, I think.

Don't forget about Wild Irish Rose! It's a crime that wasn't on Achtung, and it's very Lovetownified.

I'm wondering if a Lovetownified One would still suck or not. It may have better lyrics, you know.

Uh, well I think so. They're disturbing, at least. But a bit pricey, so I might tell you about the major thing - Cane Toad wallets. Like, full body cane toad leather with little googly-eyes in place of their real ones. Souvenirs from Hell Satansville!

I saw some alternate roo balls too. They had fur.

I have notAxver, though I'd rather not resort to that.

Did you listen to any Starflyer 59?

Not yet. I've noticed music is sounding very close to normal today, though. A bit dull, but "proper" - bass is there, drums aren't watery, that sort of stuff.

For me, the hating of that song is mostly from the "pimp guitar" as I once heard it described. Basically, I think the music for that song would smell like dirty ass, fishy vagina, and rancid armpit, if it had a scent. I don't mind the lyrics--don't think they're anything to write home about, but I don't mind them.

... you're kidding. On all counts.

Seriously, who the fuck makes this stuff! It's insane. But I suppose it puts those bloody cane toads to a mildly good use. God, they were irritating in Queensland.

The lyrics and Bono's faux-emotional delivery of them are what irritate me the most. I could take or leave the guitar, but the lyrics are so terribly trite and cliche. And the absence of a proper outro really grates.

It just seems to be living in WOWY's shadow to me. And when that shadow's missing the outro it ought to have, that's not a good thing!

... 5th to last post in this thread for me ...

Both of those songs are missing an outro. The difference is that With Or Without You still kicks ass (to me). Anyway, the songs I think would be able to stick around in a Lovetown'd manner would've been Zoo Station, Even Better Than The Real Thing (maybe), One (maybe), Until The End Of The World, Who's Gonna Ride, The Fly, Mysterious Ways, Ultraviolet (with Lovetown lyrics--so, completely different), Acrobat, and Love Is Blindness.

Ain't no lie.

I'm really tired. And sticking around to move us to the next thread is getting even more tiring.

I missed my damn palindrome.

But you're closing in on 14,000 at least.

Yeah, WOWY is able to survive the absence of Shine Like Stars, though it'd still be better with it. One without "do you hear us coming?" is woefully incomplete and unsatisfying.

I think I agree with your assessment. Both EBTTRT and MW would be more Desire-ish, I think. I can imagine EBTTRT rocking a bit more directly. As for Ultra Violet, it feels fairly pointless to me when you're bringing in Wild Irish Rose and She's A Mystery.
