ARW - sorry I didn't see your post before about Lilly-
My cat Iris started having a similar issue almost 2 years ago when she was about 8, coming up and biting out of the blue with no provocation. From my experience, when cats do this, it is most often because they are bored, not getting enough mental stimulation. Because Karl and I are gone so much, we decided the best route was to get another cat to help occupy her time, even though I knew Iris wouldn't be thrilled about it. Iris is still not happy to have a little sister after 1.5 years (baby Lily!), but we no longer have the biting issue and she is definitely getting more mental stimulation and exercise.

You don't HAVE to get another cat (there are other issues that can arise when you have more than 1 cat); if you don't want to deal with another cat right now then the next best thing is to try to engage her in more activities through the day. It's not enough to just have toys laying around for her to play with, how many times have you heard kids complain that they are bored when there is a house full of toys? You should shoot to spend at least 10 minutes (if not more) each day using interactive toys with her like a laser pen, fishing pole with feathers etc. Some others ideas here:

thanks! I'll pass this on to my sister. She already has a dog so another animal is out of the question. Lily's fishing pole broke so maybe we'll get her a new one. We're actually all of out town right now in MN visiting the family but my sister leaves to go back tomorrow. She's hoping the week alone with Lily might be a good bonding experience because Lily really has no interest in my sister anymore. The 3 of us that live in the house all work weird hours so the animals are almost never left alone for more than an hour here and there. I think between us we should be able to play with Lily a bit more. Roxy the dog gets plenty of attention but I guess we all thought Lily was just "mad" about something so we were leaving her alone and not playing with her as much.

:help:

Over the past week, my guys have started chewing cords. :scream: They did this a little when they were wee, but then left them alone for months. Now they've started again. In the past week, they've chewed a phone cord, which was no big deal, I got a new one at the buck store, but last night I discovered that they've chewed an AC power adaptor cord for my cordless phone. I've also seen partly chewed cords on other things that still work, fortunately, but if this keeps up, they'll get hurt, and I'll have to replace every cord in my house.

Hiding the cords isn't an option. I live in an older house with inconveniently placed outlets, and I'm stuck with where they are. There are too many cords, and with the way that they're placed, it's not feasible to cover them all with the hard plastic things that are made to prevent animals from biting through them. I read once that rubbing hot sauce on the cords can sometimes prevent biting. Does anyone have any better ideas?

I really hope that this is only because they're going through the final stages of teething, and that they'll stop soon.

The reason I didn't get the clean sheets put on the bed for several hours:

So as I wrote last month I moved cities and brought my Siamese, Misha, with me.
All has been fine - actually, more than fine - I think she prefers the new house over the apt as she has a lot more space and she's even ventured outside a few times.

In fact, she absolutely adores going outside - I purchased a collar and leash for her but she somehow manages to take it off.

Last night when I quickly went outside and left the door open Misha managed to get out. I tried to get her back in the house but to no avail. She's rarely taken off for longer than a few hours so I awoke at 3am to see if she had returned. Nothing. She still hadn't reappeared by the morning and now it's 7:20pm and there has been no sign of her (we left her food and it's empty but that could be any of the stray cats in the neighbourhood).

I'm not too worried that she couldn't survive outside as she did when she was young and she's ruthless when it comes to other animals but I do fear she's lost and can't find her way back. Would her smell of our place be strong enough after having lived here for only 3-4 weeks?
I'm so down and can't stop crying

Oh I'm so sorry.. Maybe she's just a bit disoriented and will make her way back. I sure hope so.

Has she been fixed? You've probably mentioned this but I miss things sometimes.
If she hasn't she's may be in heat. You may or may not see her for
a few days - possibly longer and probably pregnant.

If she has been fixed well I'm not sure about the smell thing but I didn't have Bela very long before she ran away - in heat, but she came back after about 2 weeks. (she was already pregnant before that, however)

Keeping my fingers crossed..

^^^ oh no.. hang in there.. cats do have a sense of home even if it's a new place.. I am sure you will find her. I had a similar tragedy with bella a couple pages back...

I just got home tonite and boy was bella glad to see us.. I held her as soon as I saw her and she was purring so loud.. 'mom, where have you been and do you know what I went thru??' I immediately gave her some of her fav wet food as a 'i am sorry my lovely furkid'. Now she is sitting in her fav spot next to the puter monitor under the lamp. I am so glad to be home.. had a great time tho..:D

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear this. I know I'd be going nuts too. I'm sending loads of positive thoughts to you and Misha.

I posted this site before, but I'll post the link again as it's a great resource for tips on finding lost pets, especially cats. Click here. There are general serch tips and then more specific ones depending on your cat's personality and the situation. One thing I found very encouraging is that they have stories of cats missing days, weeks, even months that have been found -- and in reasonably good shape.

I'm going to look at that link right now Indra.

U2Fanatic4ever - how long did your cat vanish for?

we went on a vacation on 8/7 and we think she got out then when we were leaving. We were in a rush and didn't do our usual double check of the house. My brother in law called us monday 8/11. So she was out for 4 days! that has never happened with her. She is 15 yrs old, total indoor cat, no front claws. We have a woods area behind our house.. And wild animals live out there, raccoons and foxes. Luckily she doesn't stray far from the house but... those coons and foxes come right up to our house on occasion..

There is a spray called Bitter Apple that you can try. I know they sell it in the U.S. petstores.

Many good thoughts and :hug: to you. Hopefully she will show up soon.

I just went back and read the last few pages - looks like missing cats is a common occurrence with a lot of us here!

I'm going to call the local animal shelter tomorrow - she is a siamese so someone may have figured she's a house cat.
I'm going to sleep in the room where the patio door is and keep it slightly ajar in case she returns. Not the safest thing for me to do but so worth it if she returns!

Oh, and yes, she's a spayed female cat.

Micro chipping your cat is always a good idea, vets and shelters always scan cats that are brought in to see if they have a chip. And its relatively cheap.. about $40 here in the U.S. and is a really simple procedure (like getting a shot). Zoey and Saki are both microchipped even though I would never let them outside... just a personal preference, but just in case.

Boy, do I ever wish I had that done now!
Or I wish there was a GPS thingy on her so I could track her down.

I called the Humane Societies, Animal Shelters (they collect the strays), SPCA but not a sign of her. We're putting up posters tonight. *fingers crossed*

p.s.: What does everyone think is an appropriate reward if found?

ladywithspinninghead -- any news about Misha? I'm keeping you both in my thoughts.

About a reward amount -- I don't have any clue. Maybe just put on any flyers that you will give a reward without saying how much and then think about it a little later. Plus you might get some more ideas of an amount from here.

Anyway, I'm pulling for you to find Misha.

Trying to post pics of my guys and girls:
well that didn't work.

Sicy, how do you post pics from snapfish? Do I have to upload to photobucket and how exactly do I do that?

You cant post from snapfish anymore.

Just create an account at www.photobucket.com and upload them there.. its pretty straight forward. They even give you the link codes to copy and paste here.
