I'm wondering how he found my journal entry in the first place seeing as how I didn't tag it with anything. :grumpy: DIE!

last.fm 5 months ago was my favorite.

Tell me about it! Who does he think he is?

"Oh God. ANOTHER one who doesn't read the forums."

FOAD with your forums, salimar, I really don't care!

And I'm glad those Irish fuckers are back.
Oh come on, you listened to Zooropa. And now it will be a real challenge to beat U2 out of top spot. It seems like I've already done so. :reject:

Looks like I'm going to have to whore out my Radiohead/Pink Floyd playlist again.

SRSLY!! I read the damn bulletin thing in my boredom, I didn't need it to be pointed out again. Also, I don't care about server problems when it's nearly EVERY DAMN WEEK.

Exactly. Every week it's "oh, we're having problems but it'll all be fixed in a few days and last.fm will be EVEN BETTAR, we promise! Now give us money!"

Question: I'm not going to be in my house for the summer but I still want my music to be sent to last.fm. If I download the plugin on this computer, before I leave in August can I just delete the plugin from their computer? And if I download it here and just login with my username it should work right?

It should work fine. You can just deactivate it, you don't even have to delete it if you don't want to (for future use). You can login from wherever you want, no problems.

This was posted today:
...it turns out that all users who had their profiles moved between clusters will have wonky charts at the moment - as some of their data was counted twice. This also means artists you deleted from your profile will appear to have returned. Fear not! We're re-running the job with a fix for this now. Expect an update in 2 or 3 days.

I'm very happy.

And I'm unhappy again! :grumpy:

Last.fm released the beta version of the new site to all subscribers today. I was given a free month of subscription by last.fm a little while ago (my account is on one of the servers that kept dying and that was their way of making up for it) so I've been able to take a look. What can I say? I think this is one of the worst site upgrades I have ever seen. I seriously hope they remove some of this stuff before they make it public. It's just a complete waste of space, cluttered beyond hope, and will take far too long to load for people who don't have high speed Internet. I've taken some screen caps.

One of the new things they've introduced is something called "My Dashboard." My Dashboard = absolutely pointless.

http://www.flickerandfade.org/betacap1.jpg

LOL, good to see you too, Audiotosser! The top of the enormous Dashboard page basically tells you what your friends have been playing. You know, because you can't manually click on their names and find that out way.

http://www.flickerandfade.org/betacap2.jpg

Wait, so now we have to know what our neighbours are listening to as well? With a million pointless images stacked at the side, too?

http://www.flickerandfade.org/betacap3.jpg

At the very bottom of the Dashboard page is even more pointless stuff that no-one is ever going to bother to look at! The current format for recommended journals is far better than this.

http://www.flickerandfade.org/betacap4.jpg

This is from the music tab on My Dashboard. Pointless, pointless, pointless. Unless you listen to the last.fm radio, but how many of you honestly do that?

http://www.flickerandfade.org/betacap5.jpg

And again.

http://www.flickerandfade.org/betacap6.jpg

This has to be THE stupidest new feature of all.

http://www.flickerandfade.org/betacap7.jpg

Now we get to the actual chart page! I hate it that they're stacking those images of the artists you listen to beside everything. It looks so messy.

http://www.flickerandfade.org/betacap8.jpg

Weekly and overall charts haven't changed, but again, the stupid image stacking.

http://www.flickerandfade.org/betacap9.jpg

Viewing charts has changed a little. I have no problem with it apart from...

http://www.flickerandfade.org/betacap10.jpg

...this. When you click to see your recent tracks, you basically see everything you've played for goodness knows how long. Look, 24 pages on mine! POINTLESS. Who on earth is going to want to know exactly what songs they listened to three days ago?

Anyway, that's all for now. Thought I'd just let those of you who can't see the beta site know what last.fm are preparing to unleash on you. :| All I know is, if last.fm are having server problems with the current system, they are going to have twice that amount with this new system they are proposing. Too many images, too many pointless statistics.

yeah I got the free subscription thing as well but hadn't noticed the beta version. it does indeed look pretty shitty.

some of my stats are *still* wrong, but I'd rather they keep the current format than go ahead with this one.

It appers that you're being stalked by some 'got_edge' person...

:shifty:

So it seems. :shifty:

Stupid last.fm! Just go back to the way you were before, I preferred you that way!

Not to mention the pink. Ugly x 4000.

I have no idea where they could possibly put the adverts. There's no space anywhere! It's just too busy. Bring back the simplistic design, and I'll be happy.

Oh, I see now that if you click the little light switch in the top right corner, the red and pink theme disappears and becomes black and grey. Which is cool for all of...two seconds.

Jeez, I go on vacation for a week, and it sounds like Audioscrobbler has gone to hell in a handbasket....or more to hell than usual...or it's about to go there... :|

I remember I would log on to my account on Sunday morning and my weekly charts were already updated.

I saw [this] last night while browsing last.fm:
  • Supermassive Black Hole by Muse was played 6016 times last week (mostly by QueenBee) but over the past six months, it has been played 5306 times.
Wait.

What?

Yeah, this new version of the site is going to be really fun when they eventually unveil it. I seriously hope they get rid of the dumb tiled band images beside all of the charts. I can't get into the beta forums anymore because my free subscription is over, but a lot of people were complaining about it.

I just went through this thread and friended a bunch of people. I hope I didn't miss the Audioscrobbler bandwagon.

I think that thing'll be trundling along for a while yet. Just as long as it doesn't go all myspace on us.

what do you mean all myspace?

Oh, with all these changes they propose to make in the near future. It seems like they're trying to target the young teenage generation, making everything look all pretty and shiny. Not to mention cluttered. Judging by the beta site, they're going to try to place more emphasis on the last.fm friends/journal system. Audioscrobbler originally started out as a simple but effective way of charting your listening habits, and that's how it should stay. They're trying to add too much stuff now, and it's inevitably going to cause even more lag on their already fragile servers.

Ohh, I see what you mean.

That's what the FOX Corporation wanted to do when they purchased MySpace. Only FOX. :barf:

I hope Audioscrobbler wasn't bought up too :|

PlaTheGreat said:
Maybe we should all start doing it manually. :der:

Too time consuming. :tsk:

And LMP, I don't think Audioscrobbler have been bought out by anyone. They're just making some really stupid changes. I hope they have the sense to look at the negative comments (because there were many) at their beta forums.
