after the way he was treated by nationals fans this year every time the phillies played there (and especially in september), i'm quite certain that bryce harper has no regrets regardless of how far the nats go.

Need to get the offense going, at least a little bit. We're choking like Lance's mom at a loading dock.

Because players who leave teams for interdivisional rivals normally get welcomed with open arms and hugs and kisses upon their return?

That's how Philly fans would respond if Rhys Hoskins would leave in a few years for the Nats, Mets or Braves? Just appreciative of the good years, no hard feelings?

I’m sure right now Bryce Harper has plenty of regrets, but he can cry himself to sleep in a bed made out of hundred dollar bills.

Or that other team.

yeah sure, making disgusting comments from the stands about his wife and one-month old son is totally normal, acceptable behaviour for angry baseball fans. bryce harper deserves to have his family repeatedly threatened and harassed on social media too, because he had the temerity to switch baseball teams when his original team made it plainly obvious they didn't want to keep him by making an insulting low-ball offer that was more than 10% below his actual market value. he didn't leave 30 million dollars on the table for a team that wasn't loyal to him, what an asshole, let's yell at him that we hope his newborn kid is autistic and his wife gets cancer while he's standing out in right field.

nobody says they have to love him or applaud him or anything but what they did to bryce this year went WAY beyond boos and the usual "overrated" heckling. if any phillies fan did that to any player, regardless of what team they played for or the circumstances, i'd hope and expect that they would be kicked out and banned from the stadium, not have the team tacitly encourage it by turning a blind eye.

Have you been to Philly?

there are some asshole fans in philly, therefore washington fans yelling at athletes from the stands that they're going to rape and murder their families because they switched to a rival team that was willing to pay them vastly more money is no big deal. got it

Yes, there are dick fans everywhere who are capable of purposefully vomiting on an 11 year old girl or cheering when an opponent breaks their neck or tears their Achilles.

The idea that a percentage of Philly fans... or Mets fans, or Braves fans, or the lone Marlins fan... wouldn't be awful to Bryce Harper if he had left their team for a division rival is laughable.

yep, an arena cheering in the moment when it appears that the other team's star player simply tripped and lost the ball in a championship-clinching game is totally the exact same thing as openly wishing debilitating lifelong diseases on a man's newborn child because he switched teams. that's a real big-brained genius take you've come up with there.

okay sure, something i never even came close to saying is laughable. cool story bro.

You know the heckling about his son that gets brought up repeatedly and was criticized by his mother on Twitter was initially poured on by a visiting Red Sox fan, right? The person involved took credit for it later.

Citation needed. A thorough search brings up nothing about this. I'm on the Phillies and Nationals subreddits all the time and never once heard about any of these examples you brought up.

I don't like the idea of it and I'd never do it.

But a Philly fan getting upset about jeering and trying to pass off cheering for other players injuries as a fleeting moment when appearances are deceiving is just about the most laughable thing I've ever seen on Interference. https://youtu.be/LrEuJut0ZRg

Two wrongs don't make a right, but that fan base has lost all rights to criticize.

all of that was from one red sox fan? lol please.

i took the "rape and murder" bit from a comment on reddit from someone who claimed to be in the stands and heard that, but since it's just one guy saying that i'll retract that particular bit, though it makes absolutely no difference at all to my point.

i was referring to the kevin durant achilles injury and the raptors fans reaction which is what headache was evidently referring to. the michael irvin shit is totally inexcusable and you'll never hear me try to defend that.

that also took place 20 years ago, when we're talking here about something that happened last month. hey did you also know that some drunk eagles fans threw batteries at santa claus 70 years ago? every person who actually did that is dead now but obviously that means that philly fans have no right at any time before the heat death of the universe to ever be upset about their players' families being harassed and threatened, because their fathers and grandfathers did a shitty thing way back in the day.

I was specifically referring to the "your son is disappointed in you" comment that got Bryce's wife on a roll on Twitter. That was a Red Sox fan.

Even as a parent (perhaps especially as a parent) I find the concept of a 4 week old experiencing disappointment over a strikeout to be funny in an absurdist way, but I get why it made her mad.

This is why Dave's up in arms?
That's a pretty innocuous and actually kind of funny/clever comment considering the kid's age.
If his wife gets that upset over that she might want to wear noise cancelling headphones to games.

Strangely, that comment made it well beyond the local news:

I don't get it. Apparently the heckling has been much worse at other times, but I haven't seen any Phillies fans up in arms about it in gameday threads. It's likely enough, I guess. A lot of sports fans are meathead idiots with bad priorities.

Twitter heckling doesn't count, as far as I'm concerned. There are barely any rules and people just go on there to troll. You can post porn on Twitter. Nobody gives a shit. Mets fans lost their mind on Twitter over Juan Soto falling awkwardly, but that's not on the same level as cheering an injury at a game.

what got bryce and his wife upset was the "i hope your son gets autism" comments and that's what has me riled up too. i don't think his son needs to have been mentioned at all, but that specific comment you just mentioned is nothing for anyone to lose their shit over.

all baseball-related heckling is totally fine. say whatever the hell you want to him about just how trash of a baseball player you think he is. getting personal about a player's family is a line that simply shouldn't ever be crossed and there is never any need or justification for it, imo.

perhaps you should make even a cursory attempt to read the posts i made if you're curious about what it is i'm talking about.

alright, so i went to find the source for the autism comment and it turns out i misread the original news article. apparently the autism comments came from social media and not actually from someone in the stands at nationals park. so i admit that i misunderstood and reacted to that misunderstanding.

my point that things were taken too far against bryce still stands, but since i root for philadelphia sports teams and, because some other philly fans were jerks decades ago, have therefore apparently forfeited in perpetuity my right to think that any other sports team's fanbase could ever possibly be in the wrong, i'll leave the discussion here to hopefully turn back to the postseason. go astros.

There's lunatic "fans" like these in nearly every city. It almost appears as if they're trying to up one another with their outrageous comments and don't fully realize the gravity of their words. Plus, people being drunk and/or fucked up on drugs sure doesn't help. Also, people are cowards on social media.

I vividly remember watching the Mets take on the Dodgers for a night game at Shea Stadium back in 1982. My family and I were seated about 20 rows behind the Dodgers' dugout when these guys were yelling some harsh shit at Steve Garvey about his wife. They were going through a divorce. And you knew Garvey heard every word. These guys had loud voices. In 2019, Garvey's wife would have ranted about it on Twitter. Lol!
