Why do so many non-American or UK singers sing with an American accent?

I wouldn't call it an American accent. It's still usually non-rhotic.

Agreed. Although sometimes it's a stylistic choice, there are some lyrics I tend to sing much more like a British singer simply because it sounds better to me than if I tried more American. Maybe that has something to do with how much British music I listen to haha . (I still love you PJ, and R.E.M.).
