So I've heard the new U2 album on Q104.3

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

The only thing I'll say is that I think my worst fears are going to come true with the quality of production on this album. The VBR mp3's I have are really terrible sounding. It looks like they've gone with the LOUDER IS BETTER approach to mastring the music- which is really really truely shameful. And radio just clamps down on audio produced this way much much more and it sounds really terrible on the radio.

I still hold onto a sliver of hope that the CD will not be mastered this way- but if the mp3's are a straight rip...

U2 overrated the "rock" aspects of HTDAAB... that has to be a factor in some negative reviews...

With that said, phaser gets a bum rap on this forum for his first review. He only got to listen to it once when he got the opportunity. He has seemingly contributed a lot to U2 fans and the one time he tries to be honest, he gets flamed to no end. :madspit:

Maybe that's why U2 and Chris Thomas parted ways - Thomas was pushing for a more rocking album (perhaps U2 were telling him that's what they wanted), but U2 had a different idea of what 'rock' was. Perhaps Thomas was saying, 'Come on guys, more songs like Vertigo and All Because of You! We need to rock this album some more! And Bono and co. said, 'Hey, COBL is rock enough for us, stop trying to make us what we're not.'

I mean this is all hypothetical, but maybe the whole definition of 'rock' is what tore the producer and band apart? Maybe Lillywhite better understood the band's sensibilities?

U2 albums are always a bit like a litter of 11 new puppies. Maybe they all look the same at first - brown spots like their mother, white patches on their tails like their father, but after a week or two they start developing characters all of their own and you get to know, love and appreciate them all for their differences:wink:

Out of all the people I have told to get their hearing checked, you need to visit a specialist the fastest. Go make an appointment now! There's something seriously wrong with your ears. This thing puts everything U2 have made since the eighties to shame.

I really, REALLY cant wait to hear this album now after that comment Axver!! Once ive listened to it a few times, ill bring this topic up again. It would be FANTASTIC if this album sounded even AS GOOD as UF or JT!

Flying FuManchu stated it best. I listened to the album on vh1.com 4 times thru today. It is a very solid album but it is not "THE MONSTER" bono said it was going to be. After hearing the word monster, I was expecting more heavy, wild guitars and soaring lyrics then there are on the album. 8/10 regardless and cant wait to see them a couple times this upcoming year.
