I understand what you're tryint to say folks but ...
They must have a criterion selection for the tracklist and the only one objetive criterion is what 04072511 and Kevink did: to check what happened with every U2 single.
Because the sentence "Best Known songs" is completely subjetive and have big variations between generations (For example, the amount of airplay for songs like Discotheque or The Fly were simply incredible back in the days but surely the new generations don't know enough the songs) any compilation about Singles (because that what U2 18 is) have to look at their singles and see what happened with them.
If they wanted to select the songs for the new generations, they'd go with mostly ATYCLB and HTDAAB, and that's simply unfair to the other U2 generations. My friends who like U2 know only Beautiful Day and Vertigo, and don't know about Sometimes You Can't Make It, Elevation, Original Of The Species, etc.
Best of 1990 - 2000 failed and sucked big time because of the serious lack of quality criterion selection, and I don't think the band want to repeat the same unforgivable mistake again
So there's no way to select "Best Known Songs" without having references for that. They must be aware of what songs were really their biggest singles, because these songs were the Most known at the time, and they'd pick up the 16 first ones, simply as that. Otherwise any selection will be just arbitrary bulls*** as Best of 1990 - 2000
