African Well Fund - Building Hope One Well at a Time

Announcing the launch of The African Well Fund, a new web-based charity dedicated to raising funds to build wells in Africa.

Inspired by media coverage of U2?s Bono and former Secretary of the Treasury Paul O?Neill?s trip to Africa, the African Well Fund seeks to combat the paralysis brought on by the seemingly overwhelming hopelessness of the situation there. By narrowing the focus of our efforts to one achievable goal ? providing access to clean water ? the African Well Fund seeks to provide an outlet for those who wish to make a tangible difference in the lives of the people of Africa.

Why focus on water? More than half of sub-Saharan Africa's people lack access to safe drinking water, leaving them vulnerable to water-borne diseases like cholera, typhoid, malaria and infectious hepatitis. These diseases often go untreated and millions, especially young children, die as a result each year. Food production suffers from water shortage, as well. Of all the renewable water available in Africa each year, only 4 percent is used. Most Africans lack the wells, canals, pumps, reservoirs and other irrigation systems that are needed to make use of this potential water supply.

100% of proceeds from the African Well Fund are donated to Africare. Africare is one of the leading private, non -profit charitable U.S. organizations assisting Africa. For more information please visit www.africare.org.

Through our website, the African Well Fund will provide regular updates of the wells that are built and the resulting effects on the villages. We will also provide educational information about Africa?s plight as well as links to other organizations assisting Africa.

Astonishingly, the cost of a well is relatively inexpensive - approximately $500 - $1000 USD ? your donation, joined with the donations of others can make a very real difference in the life of an entire village for years to come. To learn more and to donate, we hope you visit our website at www.africanwellfund.org today.
