I thought that was a good thing before I heard the album. Now I'm not so sure anymore!

Well at least this song about Bono's mum is better than the last song about Bono's dad. I'm grateful it's not another SYCMIOYO snooze.

I've got to say, I like the music on almost all of this so far, but the songs just aren't clicking much. Bono's coming across a bit like dead weight in a lot of this. Edge is still a creative and interesting musician.

For real? I think it's the worst song on the album along with California.

I think you're approaching the good part now. You might actually like this one!

The titles are fucking awful, if I had been eating when I read The Miracle (of Joey Ramone), I would have spat it everywhere. I laughed pretty hard reading the whole list. Just soooooo 00s U2. And Bono's letter was pretty crap and insular as well. But pretty damn excited to give it a spin tomorrow.

Seriously what the hell is Bono crapping on about in Volcano and would he shut up and defer to Edge?

Without even listening, I'm assuming "This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now" is about Bono's new iPhone.

They shouldn't have dedicated it to McGuinness.

The album just doesn't have enough fat. Very uneventful, for the lack of a better word.

I knew there was a reason I'm happy the album came out today.

Hahaha.

Too many songs start sounding cool and then Bono opens his mouth and it's just mundane. Like Cedarwood Road just started. Nice riff. But here comes Bono... will this be dull too?

This U2 news is annoying because everyone has ignored my thoughts on the Kanye gig.

Link?

On first listen, Cedarwood Road seems to be the best song so far.

... am I going deaf or was the first word of Sleep Like a Baby Tonight (what a fucking awful title) "Morleigh"?

Yeah, I agree about Cedarwood Road. There was an attitude in that opening, which is stunning for this band at this stage. Didn't last though.

Sleep Like a Baby Tonight starts off good but Bono butchers it with those lazy rhymes in the chorus.

"Tomorrow dawns like a suicide"? Am I listening to a mid-00s emo pop band? That sounds like the title of an album by a b-grade My Chemical Romance ripoff band.

He says that? Fuck. You're ruining a song I actually kinda like. Curse you!

I honestly haven't paid too much attention to the lyrics, don't really care that much as long as Edge is being awesome I'm happy enough

Also U2 are idiots for not going with the Danger Mouse only album (although I think the Declan Gaffney songs are great too)

Hahaha. I haven't paid particularly close attention to any lyrics but that one leapt out at me.

Suppose I should check out the digital liner notes to see who produced what...

Just the thought of a 2004 Ax seeing the 2014 Ax reading a review of the Kanye West gig while listening to a new U2 album with half interest at best makes me laugh.

Hahaha the booklet won't open, Preview reckons the PDF is damaged.

Last 3 are all Danger Mouse solo, Song for Someone (Ryan Tedder and Flood) and Volcano (Declan Gaffney their engineer) are the only ones he's not credited on at all

Honestly I was impressed with Gaffney's production, seemed to bring out the best in the rock songs

There's going to be another album soon, apparently.

inb4 omg another 5 years!1!!!

Well uh... that was a thing. An ok thing. Better than ATYCLYB and HTDAAB. Jury out on whether it tops NLOTH. Less absolutely horrid moments but also not a whole lot that grabbed me immediately.

Now I better go to work!

I love that it says "Album Producer: Danger Mouse" and in the next line "Produced by..." (four other tossers).

Songs of Experience will probably have four more producers.

Songs of Ascent has U2girl as the only producer though.
