U2's Thirteenth Album: Aimless Uncertainty?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Ryan Tedder in the London Evening Standard:

As for U2, he says he’s worked on their long-delayed 13th album as a late addition in a production capacity. He’s not writing with them. “Bono is without question the single-greatest modern-day lyricist out there,” he says. “I hear it on the new stuff too — just phenomenal. When I started OneRepublic, U2 were up there as a frame of reference. I use Bono’s lyrics as a how-to guide for being the lead singer in a band. I have the utmost respect for their fans and I would never in a million years try to capitulate to where modern radio is at.”

Who said he was writing anything ?

There was just suspicion (and fear), since a lot of his work is in co-writing superhits. The possibility was that he was coming in to massage the songs into something that could be the next Adele single or whatever.

Another pizza pic. Is that Sam Sullivan lurking in the background?

I wonder if he had garlic bread?:hmm:

It's safe enough to think the next album will be called Pepperoni, then?

actually..... we did.... :D

:sexywink:

Just give me my Bono's

And yes, I do think DM is pissed with U2 . Imagine if he's so pissed that he deny the rights in the album, and they aren't allowed to use any DM work? :crack:

I'm sure Brian Burton is thrilled to hear this, and is probably thinking "How do I get the last few years of my life back"?

Yeah in your world it does.

I'm sure he got paid very handsomely. I still think he'll be the main producer. I am a bit surprised he stated he has no idea what's happening with the album, and has been working for YEARS on it (out of apparent frustration). Makes me wonder why he doesn't know more info. He's either keeping things secret for the band (and himself), or he really doesn't know, which is very odd indeed. Perhaps U2 are happy with his work, but are strategically letting Coldplay and others release albums first to scope out the competition, and haven't told any of this to Danger Mouse? But at this point, all we can do is speculate. It would really surprise me if they have really worked 5 years on 30 songs and still haven't come up with a great album. I'm not sure if I buy that. Maybe I'm just being optimistic, but I'd like to think that by virtue of Danger Mouse even saying he doesn't know anything, that U2 are indeed keeping info from him as a calculated move regarding their release schedule. But again, no one knows anything at this point. The Billboard article was indeed disturbing, as I don't think even U2 would create a side step like that just to divert everyone's attention. It would probably do more harm than good, despite the "all publicity is good" philosophy. I just can't see them having 12 songs as far back as 2011, talking about how great Danger Mouse is, then Larry talking about releasing in Sept of 2013……..only to now -- almost a year later -- read they, "still haven't found the magic"?? I mean, really? Doesn't make sense.

It makes me wonder if they indeed had an agreement with Coldplay about the release date. I do think they talk about these kind of things, and Chris was passing a lot of time with U2...

But again, why they dind't took advantage of the Superbowl stuff is still a mistery to me. Excpet if this was their plan the whole time.

I don't think DM is fully informed about what is happening with the album, I always tought the latest converstations with him were in a bittersweet tone, like I've said before.

I wouldn't be surprised if NO ONE knows the release schedule aside from U2 themselves and Guy Oseary. Because in this day and age, anyone can go on Twitter/Tumblr/FB and post information. This inner circle got squeezed a lot tighter and honestly, why do we need to know every detail? It's gonna be out when it's out! And then the majority of posters here will just turn on it and hate it anyways so what's the point?

I figure they are just keeping options open. Two releases, one release, some hybrid of the material. They'll decide at the last minute.

Yeah in your world it does.

ck

I'd rather "er" on the side of optimism without being totally starry-eyed about it.

So i think that what CK :hi5: and others are thinking is possible. And I won't be that dissapointed if it doesn't happen that way. I have some (and struggling with) major art projects going on, and worrying about will i be able to see U2 & where etc
would divert too much attention and engery. I'd rather have them tour the USA later than earlier. Though i don't relish standing outside at MSG in the bleeping cold/snow to get a great GA spot :( either esp after this past extra crummy winter....... ah,well.

you might be on to something!
Where's laura croft when we need her.

better yet send a fierce posse of fangirls to rescue good U2.
tho, i supose some would rather have "evil" U2
:sexywink:

 :D

I'm sure there will be those people. And then there will be the, ahem, people here who will rationalise themselves into loving it no matter what it sounds like.

Nope, NLOTH isn't my favorite. I'm an Achtung Baby with a soft spot for The Joshua Tree. Followed by a need to get lost in Zooropa with Passengers drinking Pop.

But thank you for playing, see the lovely lady at the door for your prize on the way out.

I'll sign up for the rescue posse.

Evil U2 can't possibly be behind this. Evil!Adam's jacket is in the Rock Hall. I know. I have photos.

Who says U2 are no longer embracing irony…

If we only knew then what we know now.

We don't know anything now.

I heard a One Direction song on the radio today, yes radio, and I couldn't help but think how awesome it was.

I really hope Bono is furiously writing perfect pop melodies about how hot college age girls are and how they don't really know how hot they are, and that's what makes them hot, etc.
