I assume some of you own similar guitars to the Edge and even play in tribute bands... right? The Edge is one of my all time favorite guitarists.. definitely in the top 3.

Earlier this year I picked up an old 1976 Explorer on Craigslist for $750! It had a Kahler in it and the pickups had been replaced. I was unable to find the original 'tarback' humbuckers in GOLD during the restoration so I bought a set of chrome ones.

After filling in the Kahler rout, I bought a Faber ABR-1 style bridge in aged nickel. It came with an aftermarket black pickguard but i've since replaced it with an original '70s single-ply white guard... unfortuantely the guard broke in the mail! I glued it back together and put it on. I'll take a pic of it soon.

Here is a link to a restoration thread on offsetguitars.com, where I'm a moderator.

Let's see your Edge guitars!!

I have the sunburst Strat Edge plays Pride and Sunday Bloody Sunday on. My first and only electric guitar (had it for just about five years now).

Here's a few of mine...

...1976 Gibson Ltd Ed Explorer & 2006 Gretsch Country Classic (Country Gentleman)

167041_1714207610014_1082890518_1887900_7374232_n.jpg

The Country Classic was the name that Gretsch used in the interim years when they didn't have right to the 'Chet Atkins' name or Chet Atkins models' names.

Below are some of my guitars. Some belong to the guitar player that I used to work with.

The three on the right are mine.

Burgundyglo Rickenbacker 330, Fernandes RetroRocket Elite (same as Edge's WOWY RetroRocket) and my Epiphone Les Paul Music Rising.

Below, is my 1998 Fender 'Eric Clapton' Stratocaster. Same configuration as used by The Edge for "Desire" and "The Fly" during the Zoo TV tours, minus the cool snake and skeleton graphic.

Below, is my Washburn Woodstock Festival acoustic. It's similar to the black one Edge used in the "I Still Haven't Found..." video; and that Bono used in the "With Or Without You" video. Plus, Edge had the tobacco version that he used often during the 1980's and early 1990's.

And the guitar below is Edge-related, as it is my Taylor acoustic that was signed by Daniel Lanois.

My husbands guitar which I chose for him, luckily once in hand he fell in love with it.

This would actually be a Bono guitar though I believe we've seen Edge at least carrying it around. (The experts can correct me if I'm wrong!) I don't think it's the exact same year, I'm sure theirs must be older, (Again correct me if I'm wrong!) it's pretty anyway, and sounds and plays beautifully.

Gibson 335. Very nice. I would love to have one. Someday... someday...

If memory serves, Bono's dates from around 1958 or 1959.

I don't remember seeing Edge with this one. But it is entirely possible he's used it in the studio.

I remember an article in a UK guitar magazine, from around the time that Passengers came out, that Edge said that "Bono is more of a collector than he is but the good news is that he gets to play Bono's guitars".

(I think Edge has become more of a collector over the past 16 years.)

You've got great taste in guitars. You got a sister? Just sayin'...

On an outside note... I've always found it funny that many Gibson guitars have that pink fur in the cases. My Explorer does too.

That 335.

I think I'd like to meet bonocomet's sister before Edge_Orchestra does.

 Sorry guys!

Edge-0 this is the photo I was thinking of but it was probably just the photographer having him carry it for show.

And yeah that pink fur is really jarring next to the red guitar! :uhoh:

Personally my fave though is the leopard print fur in the Billie Joe Armstrong custom's case.

What? No sister for me? Dagnabbi?!?!? Guess I gotta buy my own guitars.

I agree, the Billie Joe Armstrong case is awesome.

And you were correct on the Edge pic. I'd forgotten about that. What was that from? Propaganda?

here's my black strat...

It's a recent Highway 1 model. I buffed out the body to make it a bit shiny.
I replaced the whole guard/assembly and used Klein's '59 style pickups.
I also added a Callaham trem block, Callaham trem bar and some repro Charvel brass saddles.

I like it, i like it a lot :)

Dude, you created a replica of his Boy-JT era black Stratocaster. Brass saddles, large headstock, you done your homework!

So how'd you buff out the matte body? Just using a polishing cloth? It looks great.

Got any sound clips?

My Telecaster

IMG_0743
I have an MIM Telecaster in Lake Placid/Pelham Blue that looks like Edge's blue Telecaster he used on the Vertigo tour for Discotheque and Instant Karma. Edge's is probably Japanese or American though.

Edge's:

That's my Telecaster.

Nice! I like it. Is yours a CIJ (Crafted In Japan), MIM (Made in Mexico) or US made?

Edge's is a vintage 1966 Lake Placid Blue Telecaster.

no clips ATM, sorry. I used some car wax and a buffing wheel 'bit' that can attach to a cordless drill. Unfortunately, the nitro on paint wasn't quite cured yet so the wheel started to melt the finish. It's not shiny all over, I'll do a better job at some point.

i just picked up a '77 Strat I put on layaway

It's super light! probably about 7 lbs. It sounds fantastic and is in amazing condition!
It's all original but I did put on a Callaham tremolo... totally worth it, IMO.

Here's one I put together recently...

EdgeStrat2002_zps09de9cf3.jpg

This is a "new" Fender Classic Series 70's Strat with Ash Body that has been modified to replicate the look and sound of Edge's '74 Strat. I 'm the guitar manager for the "Edge" player of a Professional U2 Tribute Band in Los Angeles. This Strat is identical to the one I put together for him. An "MX" Strat was chosen to obtain the Ash Body for tone (American Vintage Series 70's Strat in black is Alder).

The Good Stuff:

1) Di Marzio DP110 FS-1 Bridge Pickup <--Rated at 13.35k, I measured it at 14.3k
2) Machine Bolt Threaded Neck System <--This is the BEST mod for ANY Fender.
3) Handmade Solid Brass Saddles crafted by Master Luthier Dan Lenz
4) Double Ground on Spring Claw to both Volume and Tone Pots
5) Upgraded Trem Springs (for High Tension)
6) Two Black-Tip Trem Arms - Short & Long
7) Black Plastic Swap
8) Complete Fret Dress targeting 3/1000 relief in Eb setup with 10-46 Strings.
9) Fender TSA Hard Case Upgrade
10) Brand New Elixir Nanoweb Light Strings 10-46

$ in = about $1400 but its one of the most insane Strats I've ever played. I actually have two of these. The other is an American Vintage 70's with the same mods but an Alder Body. I think the MX sounds better through the AC30.

Complete Slideshow: 2011 Fender Edge Stratocaster

A few of my others. All of these have had a full Fret Dress for minimum neck relief. They all average 3/1000th.

Gibson Deluxe Explorer:

-Seymour Duncan SH-1n and SH-1b ('59 Humbuckers)
-TonePros Locking Bridge and Tailpiece

2006_Explorer_00a.jpg

Rickenbacker 330/12
Fireglo
-No mods necessary. Its a RIC!!
(I did take the upper scratchplate off, though)

2011_Rick_330_1150386_04.jpg

Fernandes Revolver Classic Sustainer

-FSK-401 Sustainer System w/Intensity Control
-Wilkinson Bridge & Tail
-Seymour Duncan Cool Rails (Middle)
-Seymour Duncan Distortion with Coil Tap (Bridge)
(Edge has a Retrorocket - The Revolver is a better guitar)

Fernandes_Revolver_Classic_Sustainer_07.jpg

Gretsch 6122-1962 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman
-Some guitars need no mods. Just a crapload of cash.

Gretsch_Country_Gent_004.jpg

Epiphone Casino E230TD
-ALL Casinos play great out of the box. Vintage USA or Chinese. They are fastastic guitars. This one happens to be Made in Korea.
-Edge has a couple of these. One with a Tremotone (crap) and another with a Bigsby (not crap). I opted for a Bigsby.

Epiphone_Casino_Bigsby_003.jpg

Some Amps 'n' Stuff

- Vox AC30C2X with Celestion Bluebacks
- Fender Tweed Deluxe with Stacked Extension Cab
- Fender Twin Reverb
