The National are a great band we should keep discussing.

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Bought the album from iTunes early this morning, and then on a whim decided I wanted a physical copy, so I bought that as well. It's worth it, though.

I really like it on first listen. Also, I enjoyed Demons a lot more than I did when I initially heard it.

Both Allmusic and Popmatters gave the album a 7.

Popmatters is so far up its own ass these days that I don't even consider it worth reading. I see why someone might not give this album a rave review, but Popmatters seems to be an endless cycle of bad Pitchfork imitation lately.

This album is notable for being as excellent as I had expected despite containing my least liked National song ever. Quite a coup.

Went with the cd purchase from amazon, so now it's clouded as well, and will listen to it once I'm done playing video games/before nap time.

"Fireproof." The album's already long as shit, so they could've stood to trim that three minutes of lazy metaphor and melodramatic delivery.

This album is far from Matt's best lyrical effort for me (although he's in great voice), but that one is just unredeemable.

I love Fireproof. One of those songs that has a lot of atmosphere, plus it's the only appearance of Padma Newsome on the record, and that violin is always welcome.

My problems with it are all lyrics/vocals. The music's fine and the guitars are very Alligator-esque by my estimation.

"Humiliation" may be my favorite track on this bitch.

I Need My Girl is just stunning. What they did with a piece so minimal in its original form is testament to just how great this band has become.

I can see the criticism of the lyrics being based on a lazy metaphor, but to think of the song as inferior to stuff like Sugar Wife, Reasonable Man and most of the debut? Nah. Personally I feel it's a modern, improved version of Val Jester. Certainly not one of my favourites, but fits perfectly within the feel of the record, just as Val Jester did on Alligator.

My top 5 is pretty stable:

Pink Rabbits
This is The Last Time
Don't Swallow the Cap
I Need My Girl
Humiliation

After that at least 5 songs are contenders for no.6. Good stuff, this record.

Slipped
This Is the Last Time
I Need My Girl
I Should Live in Salt
Demons

Something like that. The only track I don't like, really, is Pink Rabbits.

Top five after only a few listens, and in no particular order:

Graceless
I Need My Girl
Sea of Love
Demons
Don't Swallow the Cap

Mofo, are you feeling better about this album after your initial reservations with Demons and Sea of Love?

Yeah, I like the album a great deal so far. Not anywhere near as thrilled with This is the Last Time as some seem to be though, I thought it was one of the weaker tracks on the album.

According to Facebook, indie stores are getting a Limited Edition version of the album today. No mention of what the differences are between the standard version.

I guess I should have seen this coming, since the only track I don't really like is Slipped.

We're lucky, djerdap. It's like we're mirror universe versions of the same person. Cursed to love all of the same umbrella topics, but hate opposing elements of them. Truly this is a remarkable feat, that we found one another.

I love you. I went to go see if Reckless had it, and guess what they were advertising on the main page of their site?

Just says a limited edition print here:

The National - Trouble Will Find Me

I checked Silver Platters and Sonic Boom. They are both showing only the standard LP and CD versions.
