sober, and worse still, only really staying awake to reach a point where i don't feel like i'm going to bed too early.

i think europe was alright, but apparently they didn't half sell out brisbane, and i'm not sure about melbourne but it was at a massive venue way out in the suburbs, so i'm not sure if it sold out either.

wow, i just naturally assumed #4 was really recent and i'd not been paying attention.

See? This is why you need to spend more time with us. Learning the things you've always wanted to know about U2 but were afraid to ask.

comet, I thought of something, and if your girls would react similarly. this will prove the whole separated at birth thing.

So Sarah went out to a club to see an indie band with her roommates the other night. When she got home, she told me a couple of things.

1) that up front there was a mosh pit, and all she could think was "oh no, someone's likely to get hurt!"
2) when it was over, her one ear was plugged, and she thought "I'm too old for this shit" (her exact words - my response? Have a cup of Ovaltine and go to bed.)
3) she thought the bartender ripped her off for a dollar and was outraged, and bothered that her friends didn't understand the principle of the thing. She counted her change the next day, and she was wrong.

 my kid is more of a lame-ass than I am.

as much as i rage against that album, i think miami would probably have dragged down the back end of atyclb

actually, fuck it, swap it out with grace.

I'd say Miami is quite a lot better htan Grace. Anything is, honestly. Well save for Red Light. I think even Babyface is better than Grace.

:cute: How old is Sarah again? 50?

Crap, I meant NY. That'll teach me for drinking for 8+ hrs and trying to make sense...

:giggle: I figured you meant something else. NY is an okay song I guess, nothing special. WILATW is pretty awesome IMO. :)

Huh, I didn't know that.

Swap practically anything with Grace, and I'd be good. Seriously. i could whistle a tune for 5 minutes, and they could swap it out.

I know! I'm a little bit ashamed. :sigh: Her roomies would probably have a better time with me. :shifty:

It's only in the past year or so I've come to love NY. The lyrics. The dynamics.

 Sarah :applaud:

Well Chelsea has never even been out to a bar. :hmm: Unless you count the gay bar we took my mom out to for Mothers Day because I'd won a free brunch for 4! :cute: We all had margaritas for breakfast.

Both kids look on at the mosh-pit in horror from the safety of our seats at the Green Day shows we've been to. :uhoh:

And I think she is still pissed off at Bob Dylan for playing too loud and making her ears ring for a couple days after his show we saw last year I think. :hmm:

Well at least she's responsible and mature! Rather than partying till her last braincells have died!

The dynamics I really appreciate, I like the guitar tone a lot. But the lyrics, meh. Not my cuppa tea.

And this is coming from one of the biggest U2 fans/apologists ever. Seriously, the back end of ATYCLB (save new York) is the only thing I ever skip over. I even like Red Light, for gods sake.

: disowns:  Don't you know that any good U2 fan hates Red Light?

DA DA DA!

definitely. stop making me want to listen to music.

i skip over the front end more than the back end. how strange!

I have to say, many of the songs that I held off liking for so long have begun working some sort of weird U2 magic on me and making me not dislike them as much as I used to. I could never listen to Grace and always skipped it... but lately, I listen. Babyface didn't take too long to become a song I enjoy a lot now. I'd say one of the only songs left I will not want is still Red Light, though even that one I kind of dig Bono's vocals, too bad I hate everything else.

I keep forgetting the drinking age is younger here than it is there!

How cool for you guys and your mom, though!

Sarah just sounded so jaded when she told me this the other night...she's all of 22, far too young to be over the bar scene. And her horror that the moshers could get injured. :lmao:

A lot of their slower songs have grown on me, MOS mostly in particular. But also things like Peace on Earth, One Step Closer heck even ONE has grown on me! But Grace? Babyface? Red Light? Still a major do.not.want. for me. I just can't get myself to listen to those songs ever again.

i love that i'm an apologist for stuff like red light and babyface but i'll happily go ahead and slam stuck in a moment for all it's worth (which isn't much, imo imo imo)

i also like 99% of the acoustic stuff they play live, so it's not like i'm hating on slow songs.

i'm an enigma, or something.

LOL!!! That song is awesome, it's dated (so is the whole album, to a certain extent), but it reminds me of high school!

definitely. stop making me want to listen to music.

Ha! Actually, i always loved the front end, but the other day I realized that I'm becoming tired of Walk On. :(

Yeah she only became drinking legal this year at 21, but she hasn't been in any hurry to go out. Both of them would rather stay home and watch TV. And oh yeah we had a blast with my mom there. It's known as San Diego's premiere gay bar/restaurant/hot spot. Brunch was great but we want to go back some night for the cabaret show. :D

 Well, perhaps she learned it from tv?

:uhoh: It reminds me of a brothel.

I've never liked Walk on that much. sure it's a good song, but that's all. I love Kite, Beautiful Day is good. Elevation, I prefer the single version rather than the album one but I don't mind either.. now what else am I forgetting. :hmm:

like numb, i actually liked it for the first few years of my fandom.

now i always skip numb and very, very rarely want to listen to stuck in a moment.

:yikes: You mean there are times you actually want to listen to it?

 I'm so, so sorry!

I'm okay with Numb. Perhaps that's because of the awesome video. or the rare change of having Edge sing instead of Bono.

I actually don't mind Stuck. It's warhorses like SBS and One I'm sick of.

That said, I'm not like "omg, the song sucks, U2 are no good, horrors!" I realize that they are good songs, I've just overexposed myself to them. I was actually a little happy when they started playing Pride again.

i don't mind listening to elevation once in a while, because it takes me back 10 years which is kinda fun...once in a while.

i only express my rage about it online, because if someone in real life asked me what i think of elevation and if pushed for a reason why i dislike it, i'd look like an idiot if i said "well, i only really hate it because they played it both fucking nights in brussels!!".

thank you internet for allowing irrational rage to exist worldwide.

I have been seeing in the setlist threads your warming to One :cute:

I always loved One Step Closer  OMG. That song... it's another goosebump inducing one for me.

And hello... after our recent video watchings and discussions here I have one thing to say. One videos. Bono in the studio band shots of the Corbijn video = most gorgeous creature to grace the planet. That is all. :shifty: Gg you might take note at the way Edge looks at him singing right there. Just sayin.

i prefer almost any live version of sunday bloody sunday over the studio version. the random violin just...well, i don't even know.

i've found the same thing. i got to a point last yea where i'd overdone myself on the whole u2 thing, then i saw them live and i remembered they are actually still pretty good, regardless of decision making.

:cute: Raaaaaaaaage!

Actually, I can certainly say that pretty much the whole crowd enjoyed Elevation on both nights. Even yours truly.
It's just so easy for people to bitch on the internet, they totally forget that a lot of people in the crowd don't actually know what U2 play on a day to day basis, they haven't heard these songs gazillions of times while listening to a live feed. And most people come to a show WANTING to hear songs like Streets, One, SBS and WOWY. I guess the internet just spoils people, and they're starting to expect U2 to play what they want to hear. Yeah, not gonna happen.

Yeah, it's really strage. I guess it's because Bono doesn't sing it like he's sick of it anymore(like last tour) and that little guitar solo he does in the beginning is really nice.

OSC, I don't know, it took a long time to grow on me. But now I find myself randomly hearing parts of that song in my head. It's quite strange.

:shifty: Which moment is that you speak of? When Edge is in drag and Bono is in normal clothes?
