Does anyone know what time the concert is likely to finish? I'm just wondering as apparently the metro in Athens does not run past midnight and my hotel is in the centre of Athens. I'm a little worried about getting back after the show!

U2 will finish around 23:00 I think.
don't worry. I have been at Madonna's concert in 2008 at OAKA, there were trains at 1 Am or probably later
Madonna finished at about 23:20...we bought merchandise, took photos and went to the metro probably more than an hour after the concert had finished.

so just have fun :hyper:

Thanks for that..I shall be staying at the Attalos Hotel near Psiri..I had read on line that trains will stop at midnight, but it sounds as if they run later when there's a concert on..so thats a relief, I can concentrate on getting excited again now!

All set for this one after Frankfurt and Hannover, just returned today.
Anyone know were we could buy some cheap foam matting/groundsheets in Athens etc for the GA queue?

Aviv Geffen to open for U2 in Athens

It has been announced today that Israeli music star Aviv Geffen will be a support act for U2 at their concert in Athens on 3 September 2010. He joins an opening line-up that already includes Snow Patrol.

Funnily enough, Aviv's website boasts in his biography that he "comfortably outsells Madonna, Coldplay and U2 in his home country". He is, however, better known in the English-speaking world for his work in Blackfield, a band he formed with Porcupine Tree founder Steven Wilson.

Best Standing Position in GA

Hello,

I was last year at Wembley Stadium London, arrived very early morning so I got to stand in the first line just near the stage.

However, I didn't see the whole band, but if they came close enough to the mid-edge of the stage they were very close.

I am going to Athens on 02/09 and planning again on arriving early... but now I'm thinking to stand inside the circle but near the outer circular stage... the one the band walks around on.

Anyone ever stood there in a concert? How is the view from there?

 I've stood in most of the main places like front of stage, front rail on the outer walkway and the back of the pit infront of the walkway that you are talking about. I'm 5' 3" so I found it difficult to see the main stage over the tall person infront of me. If you're tall ( or have a short person right infront of you  ) that shouldn't be a problem. It is awesome when they come past of the walkway though. If you're really lucky they will stop right infront of you. Just wanted to add front of stage is not good if you are short and would like to see al of the band, I hardly saw Larry when I stood there.

I stood there for my two GAs last year. I had no problem seeing the band on stage as well as on the outer stage. I prefer that spot.
