Oy.. Now I do have to buy a 20 dollar umbrella I wasn't planning on it, and sunscreen, etc, I wasn't planning on buying. Yay, last minute travel stuff lol.

I just hope I do alright with the heat, I'm not sure what the heat its like in AZ but when I was in in OH, it'll say it would be in the 90's but felt like the high hundreds because of the humdity and it killed me literally killed me and here in CO we just got the dry heat heat.

it's usually pretty dry here, and now that the summer rainy season is pretty much gone (it never got here in the first place) humidity shouldn't be bad. The umbrella is a good thing for rain AND shade purposes...I have a nice wide golf umbrella that I'll be taking. The line-up will be near Gate 2, which is on the north side...hopefully we'll have some shade if we're close enough to the stadium

Here's another option for the gathering on Oct. 19th. This was posted over in the forum at u2.com;

Just wanted to give you all a heads up that there will be an Art Opening on Monday October 19th the day before the big show! The Exhibit will feature 11 new original works inspired by the tracks from "No Line on the Horizon".

The event will be held at Rosie McCaffrey's Irish Pub on Camelback just east of 7th Street starting at 7pm and going till 10pm. Music from the new album will be playing throughout the evening and a drawing will be held that night for 2 tickets to the October 20th show at the University of Phoenix Stadium. Hope to see some friendly U2 fan faces show up to view the Exhibit! For more information on this visit Welcome to the Doots.com. This is the artists' website and has all the information needed to get to the event...

The pub get's 4 stars on google, & 4.5 stars on yahoo. As I said in a previous post, I think I'll be over at the stadium in the late afternoon, if anyone wants a ride back into town (should have room for 1, maybe 2).

Just throwing it out there, I'm easy, with whatever is decided for the evening. :wink:

Just realized... I probably won't see any of you at the show. Can't go to the fan gathering, and I ain't GA. My entrance is on the east side of the stadium. Club level seat.

Can't be there to far from the stadium and hotel no car :(

Need somewhere near the staduim/hampton inn in glendale/westgate

As I've said, I'll be passing by the stadium (to pick up my RZ ticket) Monday arvo, & probably have room for 2. So you'd probably only have to make your way home (as I'll probably be having a few bevies). You may even be able to get a ride back with someone going that way.

Why do most American's seem to have a phobia of public transport, or don't even consider it. You guys love your cars too much!

Valley Metro, Valley Metro | Welcome , quotes the trip as 1 hr. There's a bus that runs along Glendale Ave (just to the north of the stadium), Bus no. 70. It takes about 45mins to get to N 7th Street. From there, take Bus no. 7 south to E Camelback St (a 5 min ride). These routes run every 30mins in the evenings, & the last bus back departs just before 10PM.

This sunday, I'll be carrying well over 100lb's of luggage from one side of LA to the other. I'll be catching 3 trains, plus a shuttle bus. I have to admit, I'm not looking forward to this journey, I don't love public transport that much :wink:

Thats not bad!:hyper::D

I just bought an umbrella tonight at work. Now that's off the list, now just food for GA.

As for some actual sustenance during the show;

What's the US's policy on this?

In Australia they'd make you dispose of the lids on plastic bottles (so they're not so hard). A bottle without a lid in GA equals a mess.

So I'd just take in poppers (don't know what they're called in the US - maybe fruit boxes or something, you know, juice in a cardboard container). These were allowed. Plus I'd take in muesli bars (granola bars to you guys), they're pretty indestructable too.

From around 3PM (the last time you can leave the GA line), to 10PM, with a lot of jumping around & squshing, is a long time without food & drink. So I'd definitely recommend having something to eat & drink, & wouldn't want to leave a primo position on the rail & have to go get it. Cargo pants, with my camera, a couple of poppers & muesli bars, all I need!

I will throw out what was read aloud by security (bullhorn) during the final moments before GA was allowed in...several prohibited items included umbrellas and liquids (as in water)...no mention of juicers but it wasn't that specific..however, security was shoddy and by the time it was finished, there were beer bottles, wine bottles, and everything imaginable on the GA floor...by the way, the GA floor is entirely covered from rail to the end by steel interlocking plates...so no damage to the turf...

I mention the shoddy security and the alcohol containers, this was a DRY venue, no booze sales but it was everywhere.

no, the stadium is awesome...flower, the stadium is an easy walk from the hampton. it'll be close to 90, which is extremely warm if you're in it for 8 hours. 90 air temp is going to easily be 100 on the concrete. the stadium sits NW-SE, with gate 2 (GA entry) being more to the north side of the stadium, so depending on how/where they line everyone up, there will be some shade for some people. As for me, I'll probably be lining up between 3-4pm. My wife really can't take the heat for an extended period of time with no shade. We'll grab some grub at Westgate, walk over and stand in line for a few hours, then time to party!

That staduim is weird:huh:

It's unique and revolutionary :wink:

Seriously, it's made like it is for a reason... well, several reasons.

Pretty much no venue allows water bottles. Not only because of the reason you gave, but also because they want you to buy their own.

Actually... it's basically no outside items that could be bought inside the venue.

Take note of UTDallas' review of last night's show...

"We got there at 4pm for GA, and no one that worked there seemed to know where the line was. We finally found it and I was a bit worried as there were several hundred people ahead of us. Maybe a thousand, I don't know. We made it inside by 5:30 and we actually got right up front on the rail, not in the inner circle, but behind it, which actually turned out to be much better since the stage was like 12 feet high. Those in the innner circle couldn't see much."

Having experienced Raleigh, he's absolutely right...

see, that's what's weird...people always insist on being up front, but unless you're 6'3" like me your view may not be that great, and you may not even be able to see LMJ...I'm kind of torn- I like up front, but I'd like to see the screen too. I've gotten the impression that the band spends most of the time at the front of the stage (maybe I'm wrong), so that's why I'd be more inclined to try to get up front...:shrug: Still kind of undecided, I suppose.

^ The guy I talked to who'd been to 8 shows this tour said that if you're in the front row you lose Larry completely and Edge and Adam are only party visible part of the time. No thanks.

Last night I was dead center on the outer rail and loved the view. Although someone else who was at the show said they had a pretty good view from a few rows back from the front rail, as they happened to be behind some short folks.

the view of the band is great if you're front row and within 20 feet of Bono. You can see Larry shoulders and up, as well as Adam and Edge unless they go to the back of the stage.

I was refering to the picture made it seem weird, my sister was saying it's an awesome staduim, my soon to be brother in law plays for the Greenbay Packers and had a game there, she said it's one of the best stadiums she has been too. Like I said the pic made it seem weird.

I'm worried about the heat myself, I think I maybe there around 12 or so I don't know it depends on what my friend wants she is the bday girl she decides on what to do.

Money hungry bastards! They'd rather have people passing out from dehydration, as long as you're buying their $5 water!

ACK!!!! Conflicting stories!!! :scream: I might have to go for front row in LA. But for this show I'll stick with the outer rail for my friends who will want to see the screen and all.

I'm very conflicted too. I'm only 5'6", so that monster stage may be a problem :angry: But I've got to do at least 1 show, inner circle, in amongst the action! But I need rail at my height!

Outer rail looks great though. I was rail on a b-stage for Outdoor Vertigo. Much better experience than FOS. But with the b-stages, the guys really had somewhere to perform (had Bono marching around Larry on the drums during Love & Peace or Else). There's no set areas to perform on the outer rail for 360, so I guess close contact the band will be much more fleeting.

Wherever I am, it's gotta be rail.
rail whore!

i'm so goddamn excited for this show. i've never had GA for U2 before. plus, i'm skipping class Monday and Tuesday, and, oh yeah, ROAD TRIP :rockon:

I really loved outer rail - you got to see the whole stage AND the screens and the only one I didn't really see too much of was Adam, but he even came over by us a couple times. But yeah, I kinda wish I was in the pit for one show - maybe LA. I wish I had GA for Vegas.

A few new things from the U of PHX Stadium website:

1. General Admission line up starts at 7:00 a.m. near Gate 2 (North end of stadium).
2. Guests are allowed to bring one (1) factory-sealed, non-frozen, 500ml (16.9 fl oz) bottle of water in to the stadium. No soda, flavored water, or sports drinks.

:rockon: road trip for me, too. I'm nearly packed. :rockon::rockon:

Me too, although the packing is incomplete, & stressful!

We may even make a mad dash over the mexican border, so one of the members of our road tripin' crew can have some dental surgery done (what's up with US healthcare!).

The crazy road trip just got crazier! :rockon: :rockon: :rockon:
