Rock Band and U2

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Yes as the tour goes on costs will get pared down until they can turn a profit. Generally overhead always kills profits at first, but they know that. Even if it didn't make a profit maybe they're willing to take that hit?

Also I'd love U2 in Rock Band. Not Guitar Hero. I don't think they can properly pay respect to the bands they license. Harmonix seems to take care of the production side of things with a lot more class.

That said I don't know if they deserve their own full game like The Beatles Rock Band. I think few bands do. I do think they deserve their own Track Pack like AC/DC got. It's kind of like their own game, but using the same engine instead of a total overhaul like The Beatles was.

Not that I wouldn't snatch it up in a second if they did do their own full game, but I don't think it would have an ROI for Harmonix like TB:RB.

I know there were rumors for a while..now considering the band has been losing a lot of money from the tour. Perhaps now would be a good time?

Eh...the tour is not losing money it just hasn't broken even yet, it will during the US leg. To say the tour is losing money is twisting the facts

Guitar Hero U2 > Rock band U2.

"Guitar Hero U2: Featuring 5 songs by U2 and 75 by other bands! Featuring twice as many notes that are acutally in the song! And Edge's world famous all note chords! Bono singing Nickelback!" Yup can't wait for that

Seriously though we'll probably get Guitar Hero U2 because Guitar Hero are money hungry bastards who'll release anything to try to milk a game they didn't even great

Whatever comes out, I'll buy it. Hell, even if they just released some 6 track song pack on a game I didn't have, I'd probably buy that game to play the U2 songs. And the vast majority of you would do the same too, you fanatic freak shows. Your walls of U2 memorabilia know that I'm right.

That said, I'd much rather get a Rock Band U2 game than anything Guitar Hero related, personally.

I would love it they released on RockBand, not so much Guitar Hero. It hate its interface. I only do vocals, so it would be easy, I think. The rest of my family plays the other instruments. I am lame.:reject:

I was more thinking in the lines of Guitar Hero Aerosmith. At least 90% of the songs there are by Aerosmith.
There had to be a way to work the effects, like with World tour they had the slidey bar. I can see them working in a pedal or something like that.

29 Songs by Aerosmith out of 41 songs. Not a bad number but having other bands in a band game is kind of pointless

I'd just hate to see U2 in a game made by a company who seems more about money and putting out a million games a year. Rock Band is made by the company who developed GH1 & 2 and it's run by musicians, plus if you've seen Beatles Rock Band you have to admit no other band game has ever gone into that much detail

Anyway I'd rather U2 as DLC overall, and HMX are the brand that works with that most so I'd imagine they'd get U2

Latest guitar heros have a band setting too. Mic and Drums and guitars.

I still think it's pretty lame that NEITHER Rockband NOR GH has a bass solo thing. :|
At least Rock band now have a bass controller, for a change. But still. Where's the bass love?

I thought it was 31 out of 41. Well there are bands in there that inspired them. So in U2's case it'd be bands like the Clash and Thin Lizzy, Echo and the BUnnyman etc.
I have to admit that the Beatles rock band sounds really cool, and it seems to be really good. I just didn't like the early games so I figure I probably should give it a try.

Ah well, if a U2 game comes out on whatever game, I'll buy it anyway. And a wii to go with it, ofcourse.

I think you'd enjoy Beatles, it's probably my favourite game of the year. Playing something like I Want You (She's So Heavy) on bass or drums in the game is really fun

You can play bass solo in RB, I always do it. Nothing beats going into the chorus of a song you hate and turning on the wah-wah effect to drown out the singer "I'm looking at you Axl Rose Solo Band GNR"

News: U2 Starts to Think "Me Too" to Rock Band - Kombo.com

Looks like U2 are interested :hyper:

""We definitely would like to be in there, but we felt some of the compromises weren't what we wanted," bassist Adam Clayton told USA Today. "That could change. I love the idea that that's where people are getting music, and we'd love to be in that world. We'll figure something out. What The Beatles have done, where the animation is much more representative of them, is what we're interested in, rather than the one-size-fits-all animation. We didn't want to be caricatured." "

Maybe U2 should have kept their interest a secret, because now word has gotten out and all the idiots are crawling out of the woodwork to have their say.

Now U2 Wants To Be In A Video Game - U2 - Kotaku

I think surprisingly though the people who play these games aren't really U2 haters like everyone else, the U2 request thread on the game's forum is like 1000 pages long

The general thinking there seems to be U2 = good, lots of U2 = great, U2 game = bad though

how about this: pick up a real instrument and learn the real thing.

yeah, these games are fun after a few drinks, but it seems like dumbing down music to me.

Some people can't play real guitar. I'm one of them. I had lessons growing up and have own several guitars for over half my life. Still doesn't mean I can play an F chord.

Stop complaining. Put down your real instruments and play something where you are awarded virtual points.

oh boy virtual points :hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper:

playing real guitar to song or backing track > playing fake guitar to video game

fact.

actually im just bitter cause i can play real guitar but suck at the video games

i dont give a shit if people play them or not, i just think they are silly, thats all

How about this: join a real army and do the real thing. Buy a race car and do the real thing. Be a real footballer and do the real thing

It's a video game, not everyone wants to sit around learning guitar. I play guitar, I don't like spending a couple of hours learning a song that isn't something I wrote. I'd rather press a few buttons and have fun with my friends

I follow tons of game related news sites as I work in the games industry, and this keeps popping up today since Adams quote (posted a few posts above me) so I had to come here and add my two bits.

My take. For the actual gameplay, I don't think U2's music really lends itself to a Rockband type genre very easily. I mean, the way they all play is pretty unconventional when compared to others. Adam and Larry both play pretty straight forward. Larry focusing more on the dynamics and build ups/break downs of many songs, and Adam generally playing odd, almost looping bass riffs the weave themselves into the tunes. Always locked into Larry's stuff, and usually going somewhat against whatever Edge is doing.
And Edge, oh Edge, you would have to have another player with another game peripheral just to control his tones. Trying to create his effects on the little plastic guitar would be a huge headache. And besides, generally speaking, Edges playing isn't really challenging enough to warrant a huge dynamic difficulty curve. U2's music has never really been about the players, but the songs. Games like these are about the players.
Hello! 'With Or Without You' is one of their biggest hits (and a fantastic tune), but would totally fail in this type of game. It'd only really be fun for the singer.

I would, on the other hand, LOVE to give it a go if they would add PopMart!

My two bits.

My little nephew kicks my ass every time and then says "but uncle BVS I thought you played in real life?"

I'm the same way, BUT I agree with this logic:

As someone who has played and owns just about all the Music games I have been begging for this since the beginning. Anyone who has seen The Beatles Rock Band would love to have a U2 version if you are a big U2 fan. I seriously can not believe how many people in this thread on a U2 forum say they do not want that. Why on earth would you not want to be able to play along with / sing / drumb along with U2 songs for hours on end..

Sign me up for a full game, the band has plenty of songs to fill a full disc and I would LOVE to see the stages re-created along with the history of the band played out. And I also do not understand those saying their music would not play well.. are you kidding? The Beatles might be the easiest songs they have done and I find U2's music much more exciting for a game like this.

The same people complaining about this are the same that no doubt complained about U2 showing up on iTunes. This is yet another way to pull another generation into the music of U2..

I sure hope this turns into an actual game.. I for one will buy it in a heartbeat and every single one of you would pick the game up at a friends house and play with a smile on your face!
