They played SNL last time around too, and I am guessing various radio and TV appearances and magazines are regular promotion, not a "giant marketing blitz" that requires millions of money.

You have to take in account of traveling and all that stuff. Also, U2 is not going blow $17 million in the first several months. They will try and sell this album for the long haul.

Anyone else  over SNL this weekend.

Elevation on SNL was the best SNL performance ever.
The crowd sucked, as it always does, and Bono knew it.
So he walked right out into the middle of it and sang right
into peoples faces. You could tell it was not planned.
He ends it by walking over to Val Kilmer and leans on his
shoulder and says "come-on baby, light my fire."
(Val played Jim in the Doors Movie)

Crowd goes nuts and U2 conquers another room.

Classic.

I don't think you'll see any direct marketing until you can actually purchase the album.

I'd expect to see ads in print, TV and radio starting next week.

U2 is playing Saturday Night Live this weekend, they just play Radio 1, and are on tons of magazines. I think this is part of the plan.

This is part of the plan but not part of the $17mill USD that U2 is allegedly spending on Advertising. U2 is a guest on SNL and don't have to pay to go on the show. They are invited.

No way Atomic sells 1 million in a week. Worldwide maybe--but not in the U.S. alone. ATYCLB was U2's best opening weekend ever in the States and that was only about 425,000.

I want to know what they could possibly spend ten million pounds on.
