I"ve always kind of classified u2 and bruce springsteen together too. Not for the reasons you mentioned though. Until recently i just always liked them about the same, now i like u2 a bit more but they had always been close.

Apart from the classics and certain hits like Born To Run, Born In The USA, I'm On Fire, Human Touch, Streets of Phila etc., I find Bruce's music a tad boring.
