Rock's greatest instrumentals
What do you all think are the greatest instrumentals in rock history? I'll define instrumental as at least a one minute section of it's host song.
__________________Off the top of my head, I'll go with "Light My Fire" by the Doors. That instrumental section has got to be the best piece of organ/keyboard playing in rock history. The bass line is real tight during that section, also. Plus, I like the Doors alot better when Jim Morrison is held in check. He doesn't dominate this song at all. |

People will probably laugh at this, but I love Eric Clapton's guitar solo in the beginning of 'I Wish it Would Rain Down' by Phil Collins.

Agreed with the Tool mention. There's a good chance my choices might exceed the one minute stipulation...
Tea For One- Led Zeppelin In My Time of Dying- Led Zeppelin Staralfur- Sigur Ros and Njosnavelin- Sigur Ros (I'll cheat by saying that the vocals are essentially an instrument) Miranda That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore- The Mars Volta The Walls Get Smaller- The Music The Sea Is In Here- The Mercury Program Nancy And The Girdle Boy- KC Accidental Greet Death- Explosions in the Sky Pitter Patter Goes My Heart- Broken Social Scene I Slept With Bonhomme at the CBC- Broken Social Scene And anything by Godspeed You! Black Emperor. I'm kind of into instrumentals at the moment. ![]() |

Allright, I'll put more but, they will also include instrumentals in the usual sense (A composition for one or more instruments, usually without vocal accompaniment)
"One Of These Days" - Pink Floyd "Where The Streets Have No Name" (0:00 - 1:48) - U2 "Bullet The Blue Sky" (0:00 - 0:43) - U2 "Star Spangled Banner" - Jimi Hendrix "A Day In The Life" (1:43 - 2:21) - The Beatles "Layla" (3:14 - 7:06) - Eric Clapton "Gimmie Shelter" (0:00 - 0:48) - The Rolling Stones "Message In A Bottle" (3:16 - 4:51) - The Police "Bitches Brew" - Miles Davis "Born In The U.S.A." (0:00 - 0:47) - Bruce Springsteen "I Wanna Be Your Dog" (0:00 - 0:31) - The Stooges "Alive" (3:38 - 5:42) - Pearl Jam "Soul Sacrifice" - Santana "Jingo" - Santana "One" (3:37 - 4:36) - U2 "All I Want Is You" (5:00 - 6:29) - U2 That's it for now. The songs without parentheses are instrumentals all the way (with some vocals on some songs). other songs also have vocals. |
