Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of Edge's vocals. Oh, hold on...
*Pauses to go put "Corpse" on continuous repeat*
But after hearing Edge singing on Letterman and in concert (i.e. hearing his vocals without the accompanying "wall of sound" that is on the album), I have a new theory about the production of ATYCLB:
BONO: Hey Edge, you know that bit at the end of "Stuck"?
EDGE: Sure, "And if the night runs over..."
BONO: Right, that. Well, I've been thinking...Edge, I'm sorry but you're just too damn cool. I mean, what with your name and all...so we're gonna have you sing that bit. In falsetto.
EDGE: What?!
BONO: Me and Adam and Larry just think it would even out the coolness among us.
EDGE: But...but...I'll sound like I'm in the fokin' Bee Gees or something!
BONO: Yeah, um, that's kind of the plan.
EDGE: Oh no you don't! You can't make me!
BONO: Actually, Edge, last night we broke into your house and stole all your hats. They're in that box over there, and we're gonna toss 'em all into the Irish Sea if you don't cooperate.
EDGE: Even my leopard-print cowboy hat?
BONO: Yeah, it's in there too.
EDGE: Oh, you wanker...
