I'd be more excited if I didn't have to stand in a freakin stadium with 60,000 other people. :mad: I just saw Peter Buck of REM last Saturday play a club in Adelaide with about 200 people there as part of Robyn Hitchcock's band and that was bloody brilliant.

Why can't members of U2 do that, huh????!!!!! :madspit: Or even like when I saw them in 1984, with only 3,000 people there! Poo, bum, wee.:(

im so excited, i have been watching the vertigo and elevation dvds, gets me so pumped up!
 
I think I'll be more excited when we are about a week away. It doesn't seem real yet!

Still can't wait though!!
 
I must admit the excitement is really starting to kick in now.

This may sound sad... well, it doesn't sound sad... it IS sad, but I've spent my daily runs running to ANZ stadium in Brisbane (I live about 3km away) pretty much every day since I moved to Brisbane about 12 months ago. Tell you what, though - running around the stadium(and occasionally onto the grass in the stadium) with Streets playing on my mp3 player certainly gets the excitement levels up!

Can't wait!
 
Anyone got any word on when U2 might be in the country or where they'll be rehearsing? Because if they're going to rehearse in Brisbane, I'll be there to listen, report, and if I can find some equipment, record. miracledrug03, let us know if you see any developments at ANZ. :wink:

I'll be at: Brisbane, Sydney II, Sydney III, Melbourne I, Melbourne II, Auckland I, and Auckland II. I'm starting to feel excited now; it dawned on me today just how soon the shows are. This is going to ROCK. Especially the Auckland gigs.
 
Yeah i'm keen to know when they get here too... even though its uni exam period, I plan to hang out around ANZ in the days leading up to the concert anyway. Hopefully things should start to happen soon... like i said, i'm there most days so it shouldn't be too hard to notice when activity picks up. One of my friends lives LITERALLY 100m away from ANZ so I've got her watching out for me too.

I am really hoping for extensive rehearsals. I think I'll just take a uni book or two and sit in the shade outside the stadium.

The meetups sound like a good idea as well. I'm going to Brisbane , Melbourne I and II, Auckland I and II.

Yeah, that's what I think I'll do too. Is there much shade around ANZ? I've never been to it. Now I need to figure out how to get there from St Lucia via public transport ... hopefully it won't require too many changes of ferries and trains!

There's quite a decent amount around the back of the stadium... alot of trees and such. As for public transport, just take the 407/412 from St Lucia to outside the casino(as you probably already do when going to the city), walk to queen street bus station (below the myer centre), then either take the 111/150/160 to Garden city and walk (bout 1.5km) OR take the 130/140 directly to ANZ.

I gotta admit that i will feel much better once the first concert is under the belt. Call it a case of once bitten twice shy if you will? I have never seen U2 live, and im flying a long way to do so. I will be at all three sydney shows and both melbourne shows (need a GA for Melb 2, hopefully ill find something show day). After yearning and pining for more than 8 years, it is a little hard to believe that my first show is only 20 days away.
Man its gonna be wild..... things are gonna go off big time

No seriously, cos I'm a U2 concert virgin I need tips. When should I rock up. What time does it start. Can I run and stand at the barriers on Level 3. Will I be able to get on the bottom floor, maybe have a look at U2, even yell something at them when the concert's finished. Do they always play encores or does it depend on crowd reaction. How long usually between encores.

What I want to know mostly is will U2 come back at least once more before they retire? Cos I want to be at a concert where I'm right up front.

My friend is in the idiot box, but she's not the fanatic I am...:sad: So unfair! :laugh: She told me the other day, I really love Johnny Cash, he's great. And I said, you know he did a song with U2? And she was like, "NO WAY!" And I thought, I want your tieckts.

Cheers for that, I'll keep it in mind - though I've never taken a Brisbane bus in my life. I hate using buses, though I'll use it if it's more convenient than a combo of ferries and trains.

I was at that concert....I'm trying to see where i would be in the crowd but i can't find myself. The crowd was deafening when Bono came up on the T.V's kicking...I lost my voice for about a week after that show!!!

I'll be at Brisbane, Melb II, Auckland II and possssssibly a Syd show.

For those of you wondering:

I finally caved and went to buy a Sydney III ticket this morning from Ticketek, and the lady behind the counter said they had "440 left" (I'm assuming she meant GAs since that's what i got).

Don't know if this is accurate or relevant to anyone, just thought I'd put it out there.
 
Hmm, I wonder if Sydney III will make it to being a sellout then ...

Thanks for the info. I was curious as to how well that show was selling, as there have always been tickets available for it when I've looked on Ticketek.

Im not really into fan actions. But I want everyone at the show to take one step back and goose step when the Zoo Station intro kicks in!

I know!....It's bizarre...the first 2 shows sold out within the hour...wonder why Sydney lll is struggling?Maybe the fanbase is not that big afterall in Sydney:shrug:

I know you weren't asking me... but let's just say I would have given Basil Fawlty's 'funny walk' a bit of competition with the enthusiasm that I kicked and stumbled. :D

Maybe it's not struggling at all. Think about it... if there are 440 GA tickets left out of 20,000 then that means over 95% of them have sold, and we know that C and D reserve are sold out too.
I dare say this show will sell out but for maybe a few thousand. Just remember there is always a "saturation point", and for U2 in Sydney it seems to be about the 200,000 mark. In 1993 they pulled a total of 93,000 people.
Amazing numbers.

Oh! You gotta get into it,hey.....my hubby & kids run when i start kicking around to it,they get so embarrassed! And then there was the time when i got rather alcoholomigic,flogged the DJ's sunglasses from his dressup box and jumped around like a pork chop to "Elevation":D
 
Ok, I just tried it. It hurts.

I worry about the attendance at Syndey III. I'm sure the tickets will sell out, but there isn't a market for the touts who probably have many thousands of these to get rid of. But the setlist should be an interesting one if Axver's 3rd show theory is right.

Two more weeks to do at work before I fly down. Leaving in just enough time to avoid a cricket humiliation!

There were close to 260,000 tickets available over the 3 shows. There are only a few thousand unsold for Sydney III (out of more than 85,000 available).

Not f*cking bad.

Someone look it up - I'm betting Sydney would have to be one of the top attended cities on the entire world tour.

I'm honestly not sure on most of those, but I think The Unforgettable Fire was U2's first #1 album in Australia. I do remember reading that it came out the same week as Midnight Oil's 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1, and I think UF beat it to #1.
