hey everyone. just registered to post.
congrats to everyone who got tickets.
sorry for whoever didnt. this whole thing is a fiasco.
here's an idea.
U2 needs to work with ticketmaster, the promoters, and the venues and require that all tickets MUST be picked up at will call on the night of the show. the tickets must be picked up by the person who purchased them using a photo ID AND the credit card used to purchase them. NO tickets sold at physical outlets when on sale begins.
the person who purchased the tickets MUST have their entire party attending the concert with them at the time of pickup AND they must go immediately into the building.
The maximum quantity of tickets purchased MUST be reduced to 4.
this might mean opening doors a little early and staffing a few extra people at ticket windows....but i for one would be more than happy to sit in the arena drinking a few beers for 3 hours before U2 hits the stage than deal with seeing tickets for sale for 800-1800.00 on ebay and from brokers.
most arenas have 5-10 ticket windows. they would put people whose last names begin with A-F at ticket window one, G-K at window 2 and so on and so on.
this HAS been done before. I saw prince in 1997 and it was done this way to discourage and DENY all brokers and scalpers. it went flawlessly according to my own personal experience.
now...since ticketmaster, venues, and promoters have a conspiracy with corporations and brokers pre-arranged to get tickets, that system, at least for U2 because of the demand, would have to be revoked. NO ONE (except for what the band requests personally) is given advanced tickets.
I think U2 have enough cred and clout in the industry that anyone (promoters, venues) would meet their demands.
it may seem nearly impossible to get 20,000 people into an arena in a span of 2-3 hours, however, human nature just works itself out and not everyone would show up at the same time to get in...it would be a smooth flow of going to box office, picking up tickets, and going into the arena.
if your ID doesnt match the ID of what the box office has and the tickets that were purchased...then ya dont get in.
that way i think MORE fans would get the opportunity to get tickets the right way, legitamately, at the official price, not some rediculous inflated cost that quite frankly is making the brokers rich and the fans poor.
brokers and scalpers be gone.
drastic times call for drastic measures.
anyways, thanks for listening.
i thought this venue might be a good place to bring this up and maybe spread the word. it's too late for the first 2 legs...but maybe for the 3rd leg, if they stay in arenas and dont go to stadiums, this could work.
peace
andrew
