Opening Night Setlist Contest

There was enough response to the concept post, so here goes: (and boy, do I feel like a bit of a dork)

For starters, please recognize that the following parameters are designed to ensure relative fairness (which seems silly in a fan forum) and enable the quickest possible entry(s) comparison in Excel. It’s my spare time, it will be fun, but with career and family I need to do everything possible to minimize the time investment – just in case people respond to this in a big way.

OK, enough whining.

Forward your Opening Night set list virus free in Word or Excel (preferred) to bcwgobuffs@yahoo.com.

Please utilize the song abbreviations noted below as much as possible… they are a bit longer than than common abbreviations posted on Interference –, but easier on me, and again this will help me compare entries faster.

Two entries max – include your Interference ID.
Include a song number, your setlist in order, and note the songs you see as Encore Number 1, 2, and 3…(Sample below)
B-Stage / full band – irrelevant – there are enough variables to keep track of as it is.
Closest to the songs played, song count, and songs in order including encores will “win”
Partial songs won’t count – i.e. if Bono sings two verses of Peace on Earth as a way to wrap up Bad, the “song” will only be Bad – again, there are enough variables.


Please submit by March 20th.

If you see any obvious set list / and ‘contest parameter’ nuances, speak up now, otherwise I serve as the head geek to determine who ‘wins’

Songs with no abbreviations -- send it on over. It's one thing if I missed a few, quite another to parse through multiple iterations of the same.

What do you want us to use for Out Of Control, 11 O'clock Tick Tock, and The Hands That Built America? They're all likely contenders. I'll almost certainly be using The Hands That Built America in mine. (I'm also agonising over this damn thing - it's not easy trying to predict U2!) When I write out my setlists, I never abbreviate anything - though I occasionally just write Pride instead of Pride (In The Name Of Love). Especially because my copy of the UF album only says Pride.

Make them up for Out of Control etc -- I don't mind figuring out a handful, and my list, despite the spelling (tough crowd too by the way ) probably has 90% of the likely contenders.

Still working on opening night sets myself. I've created stuff that I like, but nothing I'm yet confident is realistic. I'm finding UTEOTW hardest to place - partly because I am not 100% sure it will be played.

I'm trying to nail it and the more I try, the more I realise I'm probably totally wrong. Especially because I'm having a hard time including nineties material besides One, but that's what the band are rumoured to be rehearsing. I focus too much on the flow sometimes when it's quite obvious U2 aren't so concerned about that. Heck, these guys even did ISHFWILF --> The Electric Co.!
