Smile, you're reading my post
do you remember when i was just your little girl?
when everything was sunshine
and you were dear to me?
when you loved me just as I was
when i sat upon your freckly knee?

i remember you best as my joker Dad
who poked my tummy cause you knew I hated it
who took me to watch the bears
the one who gave me all the hugs.

i grew up
you didn't see me anymore
wondered what i did wrong
yet your duffa you still called me
until the day you went away.

in the shadow of your walk
behind the beat of your step
you'd wait for me to come home still
now i am the one who waits.

until the day you went away.

That line has frozen me

. The most touching poem I've ever read of yours.

when you loved me just as I was
when i sat upon your freckly knee?

I can intensely relate to that image.

wondered what i did wrong

You never did anything wrong.

I love this poem, zooropamanda. Its ironic in a really sad way. And everyone can relate! Anyone who has shed the protective wing of their parents and lived on their own at least.

you'd wait for me to come home still
now i am the one who waits...
