You can make a quick 747 sound loop (like the intro to Gone) and then kick it in during the parts needed during the song.
I'm sure one could find other U2 uses. And it's just cool to do to play and write and experiment.
Maybe you want to have an easy way to play along with U2? One thing you could do is play a bass part on the looper - turn it on - and play guitar along to it.
