Fuzz sound in discotheque

What kind of pedal is The Edge using duing one of those main riffs in the studio version? I'm talking about the really fuzzy high distorted one.

Since he doesn't use that sound in the live version, what does he use live? Something mildly crunchy during the verse and something with more bite during the chorus.
