I hear

"Check mated
Shots fall
Shot down"

in Vertigo

I hear that too. Always have done. And I prefer it to the "hours of fun" version he does.

OK I FINALLY FOUND ONE!

I thought that in Angel of Harlem he was saying

"We got Jungle Jane and love supreme, miles says she's got to be...."

But it's, "We got John Coltrane and love supreme...."

I misshear lyrics all the time :reject: .
Then when I'm singing along to whatever song it is someone will be like "that's not the words!", lol.

I thought it was "Miles says she's got to be"
- as in, Miles Davis?

I know, who's Miles?
I tried to pretend that I misheard the lyrics, and maybe he was saying ,"My heart says she's got to be..."

But then I watched Rattle and Hum with captioning on......

I just remembered another one! You know the "I am someone, I am someone" from Silver And Gold? I originally thought it was "I am so warm, I am so warm." Never could quite figure out what was making Bono so warm.

That man really needs to enunciate. :|

I'm guessing since John Coltrane is mentioned in the song, and its dedicated to Billie Holiday, he means the jazz musician/composer named Miles Davis.

ok for the Vertigo check mated "hours of fun"/"shazbot"/ "shots fall" lump I have another to add, I always thought he was saying "check mated / just born / just made it yeah" at this point... regardless of the fact that it makes no sense :slant:

I just ran a quick lyric search on it, apparently no-one really knows:

"check it,
Just for,
you'll need it!(yeah)"

"Shake it...
Just for...
Jumping in... yeah "

lol that one's kind of funny... got it off of elyrics.net

my big mixups:
(these are all real)

1. stay:
just the band and the clatter
as A NINJA runs to ground
just the band and the clatter
as A NINJA hits the ground

2. Mysterious Ways
living underground, eating from a CAT

3. Wake Up Dead Man
Can't we rewind and JUST WATCH PORN

4. North & South of The River
Can we stop playing these ALTAR 'TUDES
(lord knows what I thought that meant)

Oh dear, these are hiliarous! You are now going to make me admit to one I just found out I was singing wrong (LOUDLY singing wrong) on another thread...

"Lipstick colors that have never been seen..." I actually thought this was an extremely profound statement that Bono made.
5. City Of Blinding Lights
rather than:
Time, won't leave me as I am
Time, won't take the boy out of this man:

Tonight... One Lean Me Howie Sand
Tonight...One Jingle Bird An Honest Tan

(that was as close as i could get until i forced myself to read the lyrics, which was about a year after I got the cd)

6. A Man And A Woman
Brown Eyed Girl Across The Street
On Newspaper Rhine

and i still don't know what he says on LOVE AND PEACE right after
Baby don't fight, we can talk this thing through.

it sounds like "With Meanie and You" (perhaps a Beatles reference) or maybe a more cockney "With me knee and you" (he's gonna knee her in the stomach... not really the best way to end a tiff, if you ask me.)

Oops it didnt take my response. Those are really funny! Don't you wonder what some of those crazy things might mean? One Jingle Bird an Honest Tan????

You are now causing me to admit that I just learned I've been singing Electrical Storm wrong (and LOUDLY WRONG)... I guess it isn't "Lipstick colors that have never been seen..."

Why is it that you sing the loudest when you are singing the wrong words? "Hey world, I'm stupid and I'm proud of it!!!"

Someone should take all those wrong lines, put em together and make a song out of them.

Hang on I gotta find it....there's one I just found on Pop.....
I'm 90% possitive it's in Starring at the Sun

I was listening to it last night in the car and I sang it loud, and I knew it was the wrong words too, I just got so used to singing it my way instead.

FOUND IT

I'm not just deaf and dumb, starring at the sun = correct words

I'm not just stepping down, starring at the sun = my words

Even though I know those are the wrong words, I almost always sing them ins ead of deaf and dumb.

The L&P lyrics are:

Baby don’t fight
We can talk this thing through
Between me and you
I’ll call or you’ll phone
The TV is still on
But the sound is turned down
And the troops on the ground
Are about to dig in
And I wonder where is the love
Where is the love
Where is the love
Love and peace

My take on "Elevation", for a while, was "Higher now in the sky"... Then the second verse I kept getting wrong. Instead of "Strung out like a guitar", I was hearing "Still got that red guitar", which seemed like it made sense as an ongoing theme. Oops.

And this is an old mistake, back before I had access to proper lyrics, but for some reason I heard this in the last verse of "Out of Control":

The man said try one
It's in you, try one

old sunject, but i just remembered one, first time i heard Vertigo, i didnt pay any attention, so i sang a week of

Hello, hello
hola!
May i please go Vertigo
bueno esta
its everything that makes me hurl

i know, monke dumb, dumb dumb

I've got about a billion of them from if God Will Send His Angels...but mainly...

Rather than: Nobody here taken over
When love took a train headed south

I heard: Nobody here taken over
On the ticket train heading out

Well I definently thought he was saying
In this Heartland
In this Heart and Soul

But he's not...

Nope...

In this Heartland
In this Heartland soil...

I only just found out when I was looking up the lyrics for a friend

I thought that as well bono_212 for a long time

It took me awhile to figure out Bono was saying "Tree of pain" in Bullet the Blue Sky.. I always sang.. Chiapang or something. I thought it was a place

Does he really say tons of fun in Vertigo? I keep hearing shazbot as well, I think someone else in this thread said that. :
:giggle:

Instead of the last "Ha la la dee day" at the end of the chorus on Running to Stand Still, i thought it was "Have a lovely day".

LOL :)

OK I'll fess up.

Until today as I was watching Rattle and Hum yet again  and had a flash of enlightenment - I always thought that the following:

Early morning, April 4
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride

was

Shots ring out in the Memphis sky
Three blasts, they took your life

oh dear...I feel better now...that's off my chest :)

Free at last is, of course, so much better

:bono: :steps into confessional box: I thought Martin Luther Kind Junior was killed in the morning...and I sang this on one of my cds...and confused millions

But seriously, is the chorus to Pride one more in the name of love, or what more in the name of love?

WHOA WHOA WHOA

I could've swore Bono says and ant's go in Promenade but NO!
I heard, Dirt, dry bone and ants go

but It's Dirt, dry bone, sand and stone

Ok...I'll be back soon...since i seem to mishear EVERY u2 song :reject:
