Poll For Songs On The Next Tour

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
This is stalling out now. The plan was to post these polls on other U2 forums, but I'm so lazy. Have at it if you'd like.

Wet Dream Setlist:

- Every song with over 50% support in a poll.

Boy: Out of Control (1)
War: New Year's Day (1)
The Unforgettable Fire: A Sort of Homecoming, Bad, The Unforgettable Fire (3)
Joshua Tree: Exit, One Tree Hill, Where The Streets Have No Name (3)
Rattle & Hum: All I Want Is You (1)
Achtung Baby: Acrobat, Even Better Than The Real Thing, The Fly, Love Is Blindness, Ultra Violet, Until The End Of The World (6)
Zooropa: Lemon, Stay, Zooropa (3)
Pop: Gone, Mofo, Please (3)
Songs of Innocence: California, Cedarwood Road, The Crystal Ballroom, Every Breaking Wave, Iris, Raised By Wolves, This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now, The Troubles, Volcano (9)

Non-Album: 11 O'Clock Tick Tock, Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me (2)

Total Songs: 32

Cut the number of SOI and Achtung Baby selections by three a piece and you'd have something realistic in terms of length. Funny how the entirety of the last decade gets ignored.

3 songs from Pop in the top 5! That should tell you something. Pop was not a failure, it's a beloved fan favourite :D

In my totally amateur opinion, I think it's about context.

*There was too much time waiting for that album.
It usually make people over critical... "we waited that much for this?"
If Zooropa had taken 4 years instead of 2, everybody would've hated it.

*Pop takes AB and Zooropa sound even further... at the time I remember fearing that u2 would keep pushing more into dance/techno territory which I was not planning to get into.
After millenium u2, there's definitely no risk of them going there, and Pop sounds a lot "safer" (to me) despite being experimental or whatever. It's just the adrenaline but without the danger.

*Following that point, Discotheque =|= Pop... it's a great song, but when the lead single of an album named Pop is Discotheque, with a flashy album cover and they dressed up as the Village People, you get an idea of what you expect on that album, and I think that many people was a bit disappointed with what they were expecting and some other with what they got.
Because that album is one of the least "pop" albums they've got, it's a really dark album and they didn't sell that part, they sold the "flashy" discotheque and it didn't sell as well among their fans as they thought it would.
Time has passed and it's become easier to appreciate the album without being distracted by the flashiness it once had.

*It still doesn't sound dated. It has aged pretty good.

Again, just my opinion...

This place is bonkers!

Nothing from ATYCLB or HTDAAB!

Vertigo and elevation, as disliked as they are around here, are awesome live. They really energize the crowd and even more so in an arena environment!

Funny how the entirety of the last decade gets ignored.

Well look at these songs...

That last decade stuff didn't stand a chance. That's an incredible list. Not a stale choice to be seen. Even warhorses like Streets, UTEOTW, NYD and Bad sound great no matter how often they're played. Now, I might go for (just say) Kite instead of Please. But that's about it as far as the post-POP stuff.

Well, if you like that stuff, you've had plenty of it to chew on since 2000.

Time to move on. Namely, to stuff they've been ignoring for years.

You know, the better stuff.

Yeah, it's not entirely related to quality or how good a certain live song happens to be. If someone attended a bunch of Vertigo/360 shows, the last three albums have been pretty overexposed. I don't even really like the album Pop, yet there's so many songs on there that are great (or could be great live) that I'd be dying to hear.

In some cases, we're also getting rarities that we shouldn't. "Miss Sarajevo" was played in Oakland on the Vertigo Tour and in Oakland on the 360 Tour, even though the general audience runs to the bathroom during it. Why that instead of "Discotheque"?

Actually, that would be a good poll, select your "bathroom break" songs.

For me(the shows I went to):

In a little While
Your Blue Room(although it is nice on the 360 live CD
Miss. Sarajevo
Moment of Surrender(more of a get ahead of traffic cause youre not missing much song)
Unknown Caller

Where the Streets Have no Name(only because it's so good live I pooped myself) :)

I'm confused on... how can people go to the bathroom in the middle of a concert? Even if it was that impossible to hold it for a couple of hours, I'd rather do it in my pants than miss something, even if it's a song I'm not really a fan of. :shifty:

The hardcore fans of an act don't, but the casuals in the seats certainly will. Obviously, it's next to impossible to get out of the GA pit and back in most shows without it taking forever and annoying dozens of people that you have to push through to get out and back in.

Even worse are the people who leave before the encore. Seriously, tons of people at U2 shows (again, usually in the seats) either don't know much about live shows or have had enough by that point and bolt before U2 comes out and plays another half-dozen songs. I've seen it happen right next to me.

The only time I went to the bathroom was because I would have peed my pants if not. I didn't have a choice to "pick" when I went? I was in seats (GA is horrible) and as one song ended I ran to the bathroom. As I stood at the urinal(only person in there) I hear I still haven't found being played :( one of my favorite songs!

Other than that, I have never missed a single song.

I motion that this idea be banned and never ever....ever.....ever repeated!

The only thing worse would be having the intro song be "Who Let The Dogs Out".

Better idea: The band plays in a cage full of wolves. Preferably wolves wearing sunglasses. That'd be pretty sick.
Even Better Than The Real Idea: Bring back Edge karaoke and have him play 'who let the dogs out' then segue it straight into a cover of What Does The Fox Say and further launching it into a trilogy of Raised By Wolves-Wild Honey-Cartoon World. End of show.

Polls are still open, by the way, to whomever wants to take them and I'll eventually put these up on other U2 forums if nobody else does. We've still got months until tour rehearsals.

I think I wore out Promenade more than any song on my vinyl UF back then. That song is what U2 can do. Took me to sea side town. Still does.

After all these years it seems just as magical now as it did then.... it is timeless.... when Bono sings " oh cherrie, dance with me...." reveals a hugely intimate openness in his songwriting and a vulnerability that I wish all the cynics and Bono haters could "get".

25 is too many. I don't want to pick 25 because even though I like a lot of those songs I have no desire to hear them live.

Holy Shit that's a beautiful setlist. Can't believe Reach made it on there, but amazing none-the-less.

People have given me hell because I like the "darker" U2 stuff, and am not a big fan of the big celebratory Beautiful Day type stuff, but take a look at this list and see that most people agree with me. The dark, and gorgeous stuff is here.
