I have 19 years of experience on this subject so I'll throw in a few comments and also try to clarify a few things about vegetarianism.
I'm hardly skinny. Not all vegetarians are thin. I know a lot of them that have weight problems. I usually eat way too many carbs as part of my meal because an all fruit and veggie diet is not very satisfying. Just because you cut out meat from your diet doesn't mean that you're only going to eat lettuce for 3 meals a day. I've had a lot of people make comments to me that they're suprised to hear that I'm a vegetarian because I'm not stick thin.
I come from a family of short and round people!
Lots of vegetarians wear leather too. I do on occassion but not a lot. My main reasons for becoming a vegetarian was that I never liked the taste or texture of most meats. It wasn't an animal rights thing. A lot of vegetarians that I know have given up meat for lots of reasons but very few have been for animal rights issues. So seeing Larry in a leather jacket is not odd at all. If he were a vegan then yes. But just vegetarian, then no.
Also, someone made a comment about smoking. I don't understand what that would have anything to do with not eating animal flesh.
As far as the bull's blood goes, I also don't think that has anything to do with being a vegetarian. A lot of people think that vegetarians contradict themselves by not eating meat but wearing leather or eating dairy. There's several different groups you can lump people in that don't eat meat. It depends on what they omit from their diet and lifestyle. Vegans do not put any sort of animal product in or on their body; vegetarians do. We eat dairy and/or egg products, wear leather, etc. The only thing we don't eat is the actual animal flesh (sounds gross but I don't know what else to call it). Some people consider themselves to be vegetarian if they only cut out red meat from their diet but eat the occassion poultry or fish. It depends on the extent of how far you want to go with it. I can't stand the idea of eating any sort of meat but I can't live without cheese.
I hope that helps with any confusion.....
