Yep, that's right! My geo teacher was Dave McComb's brother - Rob, who played violin and electric guitar on the albums. Damn, I love Born Sandy Devotional... As you can see, I'm a sucker for clever and well-written lyrics.

... wow. That's just awesome. I wish I'd had an interesting teacher like that. And Born Sandy Devotional is such a good album - I agree entirely about the lyrics, they're fantastic.

I think one of the greatest things he ever said in class once when we were talking about music was this:

"Yeah we were around the time of U2. Bono's a bit of a fan of ours, actually - the feeling wasn't mutual"

That's it, I'm listening to Born Sandy Devotional... NOW!

:combust:

Now if only U2 came up with an album like that...

That's a pre-requisite to post on this thread.

He's right. Being Australian or Kiwi means that you automatically have a blood-alcohol reading of 0.1 (more so Aussies, or so I hear)

Sorry, you went all quiet and I wasn't sure if you were still here! And, I had no idea what you were doing...

Shame none of my geography teachers were cool enough to be in legendary bands. Or any band really. :(

Bands better than U2:
- Porcupine Tree
- Pure Reason Revolution
- Crowded House
- Agalloch
- Orphaned Land
- Blackfield
- The Shadows

Though since PRR have only one album and Blackfield only two, I'm not sure whether to really count them. PRR in particular could seriously go to shit, who knows.

If The Cure had thrown in the towel after Pornography, I'd probably say they're better than U2 too. Especially if they'd reformed to do Disintegration before splitting again.

I think Aussies have more alcohol than blood flowing through their veins ...

I've only ever heard of Crowded House, and I'm not even sure what type of music they play!

I think I needs moar music.

GET OUT OF MY MIND CHARLES!

Nope, can't mind read. Maybe after I graduate with a degree in psychology (if I survive).

I can help you with that. I can help you with that in a big way. I'm far too much of a music obsessive.

Crowded House perfected the art of pop-rock. Neil Finn is a genius. Bono wishes he could write songs as good as Don't Dream It's Over or Kare Kare or RECURRING DREAM. Holy shit I love Recurring Dream. And almost nobody's heard of it because the Crowdies didn't put it on an album. Way to make no sense, guys.

I once saw a free concert Crowded House gave in South Auckland. I was front row. Paul went to give me his drumsticks at the end, but a bitch snatched them off me. He apologised.
Neil was a legend. A girl next to me was recording it, a security dick came over and snatched the recorder off her and broke the tape. Neil stopped mid song (they had only played one song at that stage) and refused to start until the guy went into the shopping mall they were playing next to, and replaced the tape. Once she had it going again - Neil told her he'd wait for her to say she was ready - the concert kicked off again! Talk about making the security guard look like an ass!!!
