Half a mile from what she said...
This is one of those "moment" poems. Back during my sophmore year of college, late in the year, I met a young lady. She had a boyfriend, but we had a connection. Nothing ever really materialized between us relationship-wise, but we spend some really cool time together, especially at night. These are the memories I cherish, the things I hold on to.......

The Nightlife

Nighttime is when others sleep
While we live
Outside at night the sky shows its best
And summertime breezes cool the earth

We are awake during the night
Scared to shut our eyes
Afraid to let our minds explore at depths
What we feel on the inside

At night we are alive, listening to silence
It is our music
There is no need to talk at night
We feel the same things

Moonlight lights up your room
Bathing your face in gold
We hold each other tight
Our thoughts straining to speak

When we sleep we wish to dream
And dream we do
But our dreams are nightmares
We are alone when we dream

So the night is ourtime to live
To hold each other
And keep our dreams at bay
Our thoughts and fears inside

If we were always together
Would it comfort our minds?
Or would we still dream
Of things we dare not speak of?

We live the nightlife, yet it curses us
We are alone
Even when we have each other
And the moon to comfort us

written spring of 96....an experience I will always remember with a smile........thanks KP

just a few lines out of many that I enjoyed reading, what an experience that must have been popkid? beautiful and moving, yet heartbreaking... I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that I think you will never forget her or those precious moments no matter where you go or who you take with you

you write some great poetry, so since this one is a few years old, we can use this for the "best of the 90s" volume?

A beautiful poem. It reminds me of late night conversations with a friend of mine from college whom I've since lost track of. Sometimes the memories are the most important part.

P.S. My 100th post!!!! YAAAYYYY!!
