The Edge talks Telecasters! (video)

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Looks like a Telecaster Deluxe to me. The shape of the body, pickguard, two humbuckers, Strat-style headstock (which is on the Tele Deluxe's)

cool vid. wish he was at least holding a tele though

M

yeah, funny he is holding on to his frankenstein guitar, the native w/ strat neck that was destroyed in the 2002 flood?! most random choice ever.

I don't think that Fender would allow anyone to do a spot for them holding another company's guitar.

Gee, I wonder when this was filmed. Doesn't look like 360 backstage. And Edge didn't bring that guitar he's holding on tour, right?

edit: AWW, He mentions Dallas his good friend!!!!!!!

Cool video and nice Tele he's got there, I kept wishing they'd show the guitar a little better! It's probably backstage during 360 as he's wearing one of his stage outfits from the tour. (mainly that leather shirt)
Teles have always been a favorite in this household. :applaud: And also happy that Dallas talked Bono into using one since he really seemed to have fun with his on The Fly. :D (Okay I know it's more like a telegretsch, but still  )

prob right on the tele deluxe..still though He's talking about what started it all ect ect and thats the traditional Tele and he has those so I would think he would have grabbed that... for the video shoot from the bazillion guitars he owns either way its a cool vid

I agree there Mick. But maybe it's the latest vintage 'goodness' that Dallas brought home so he's been attached to it lately?

But it would have been better, the Fender video, to have had the 'Vertigo'/'Boots' `66 Tele.

And BC... I am more than fond of my Telecaster Custom. One of my favorites. You will have to post me a pic of Charlie's Telecaster. I think I've only seen the pic of his Billy Joe Gibson LP JR

Doesn't say in the video if the guitar is Edge's or not.

My thought is that it is probably something that Dallas recently bought. Being that it is a beat up vintage Telecaster Deluxe, I doubt that was just hanging around at Fender.

Plus the room the video was done at looks like one I've seen pics of U2 work in. I think it's the studio at the house in France.

I had not seen the guitar before either. But I'm sure that there are lots that we've not seen used on tour before.

that guitar is from The Edge? I don't remember that

Cool video. I love that Tele color scheme he's got!

I know what he means; every time I play my Tele ('96 MIJ Custom, like Edge's white one, but black) I always love the tone and am totally inspired because it sounds like nothing else in my collection of a dozen guitars.

Little story behind my Tele. When I was 17 in 1996, I saw it in a guitar shop and wanted it so bad. Took me 14 years, but I got it. :)

Lovely. I like the black version too.

Edge's is a 1994. (As coinfirmed by Dallas in the 2009 Music Radar article).
Not sure how many years that they made that model.

Only issue I've seen with most of those is that the gold finish on the hardware goes bad.

and that post?

And that post? What did you mean?

I think he is holding one. Looks like a Telecaster Deluxe, they have a Strat headstock. Hard to see in that video though.

(edit: went back and I see that's exactly what Edge_o said on the last page. LOL)

See I'm ignorant.

I'm a Fender Bass player (Jazz and Precision)

No you're not. It's true he made an unusual choice for the video as it isn't a standard Telecaster, and the Strat type neck is mostly what we see in the video. I took a screencap here so it's easier to see. You can see it's a Deluxe, as it has the Telecaster Deluxe headstock. :)

It is an odd choice for the video, in that it isn't a standard Telecaster.

That also leads to my theory that it is probably a recently treasure unearthed by Dallas.

The 'Strat-style' headstock is on all of the Telecaster Deluxe's (along with the two humbucker pickups).

BONOCOMET: Charlie's Tele's look great! You should film him playing something... anything... and post it. (Or at least privately). It would be cool to hear what both of these sound like.

Looks like it is a walnut body, like the Telecaster Custom Edge used in the "Vertigo" video. But it looks liek the top of the guitar was painted black.

The pickguard looks yellowed over time... except the one area near Edge's hand in the screencap. Maybe there was a sticker there that was there for ages and Edge/Dallas or someone later removed?

And the grime and wear on the neck... It looks to have been a well-loved guitar... or one that someone played after recently working on their car engine and didn't wash their hands.

 I'll see if I can talk him into that.

(The Highway One has a mellower sound, and the Standard has more of a bite to it. :hmm: )
