EBW was described as a "surging anthem".

Doesn't that sound like "surface of your love" ??

Remember that clip we got in the lead up to NLOTH that went "I am coming to the surface of your love" ....I'm still hoping for that on SoA. That definitely sounded like a surging anthem to me, but maybe not, I haven't listened to it in a long time. Regardless, that sounded like an incredible melody....I can't wait to hear it eventually. :)

....now that I think about it, there is a connection between Every Breaking Wave and the lyric "I am coming to the surface of your love"...I'm probably reading too much into this, but just thought I'd throw that out there. :)

Wasn't it "Coming To The Surface For Your Love"... which ("For Your Love) turned into "Stand Up Comedy? I'm confused now...

hmmm..Well, we weren't sure if he was singing "I am coming to the surface for your love" or "I am coming to the surface of your love" ...I think we decided that it was "for your love," and then we eventually began calling it "for your love" at one point...but in SUC, there's the "for your love" line...so maybe that's why you're confused? The clip I'm referring to is really poor quality, but I just listened again and I can't imagine the "I am coming to the surface for your love" part (the chorus) turned into SUC...but who knows...

I think at one point we noted that the 'surface for your love' song had a very identical riff to the one in the 'larrysuff' video, which I think we had thought became SUC. Still, we were taking leaps, since it was never confirmed that the 'larrystuff' vid was an early version of SUC, however, I think it IS the same song as the 'For Your Love' clip we heard in the HQ clip. Only time will tell, I guess

"larryinstudio" - every breaking wave?

How cool does "larrystuff" (SUC) sound in that vid, so raw and very led zepp like.

I think that I would have liked the rawer versions of all the tracks on NLOTH especially magnificent.

So every breaking wave got cut at the very last minute because they thought it was that good that it should be the single for the next album or they just never finished it like winter? EBW was on "the board" and winter wasnt though right?

I like the clip 'Adam and Bass'... sounds like a very Achtung/Zooropa-like intro to a song. And the final moments of Magnificent in the Father brian Eno Drums clip, as well, with the little electronic outtro noise.

I'm not complaining, mind you, but NLOTH could have been a very different album. Hopefully SOA delivers, and the band doesn't back down from their ambitions for it as a different type of album.

I always thought that the LarryStuff clip turned into Stand Up Comedy.

I think the Larry in studio clip is an early take of IGCIIDGCT,
I was originally v excited by this clip, but alott of these clips seem v stripped down on the album!

I dont think Edge's riff from Breathe even made the album pity!

and Larry's drums sound so much better in father Brian Eno than on the album!

and SUC really did get v poppy in the end a long way from the raw Zeppelin like version in the clips

Couldnt agree with you more Zoo_Fly!

oh and my bet is that the Dallas Mystery Tour clip is EBW!
fits the description imo!
and sounds v epic and incredible! not something that U2 would discard lightly!

That was what really disappointed me about Winter. As soon as I heard the Dallas clip buried in there my heart just sank. :( But that was back then and I had been listening to the clip on it's own so much. I've come to appreciate it at least where it is. Oh well.... I'm still hoping it makes another appearance on a reworked Winter.

And I kept the mp3 of the clip that I still listen to anyways ;)

Well, you’re lucky because it’s not mixed properly, not even close. You can bet – all other things (arrangements) being the same - a final ‘album’ mix would sound exactly like the video, with a much quieter Bono. The Winter we have would just be a quickly cut together working mix. That part of the song especially is obviously waaaay off. Literally like someone wasn’t even trying, and I bet they weren’t.

But wasn't Winter officially released on Linear?
I hope your right! The song could be a real classic with some adjusting!

Monthly might work when we don't have tantalizing evidence like we have for SOA, with all that's been dangled and with their tradition of dragging things out, even being optimistic about it is killing me. I bet there are many in the same boat here.

However, NLOTH still rules, and the tour finally getting its butt to the US will suffice for awhile.

Yeah, I'm sure NLOTH is enough to get me through this waiting period, as are all the other awesome U2 albums.

Welland Tribune:

SUN MEDIA: Did you think you were taking a risk playing so much of the new material off No Line On The Horizon (co-produced by Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno) off the top of the live show, given the album hasn't produced any real hits?

BONO: I love hits, I love 45s, they're a thrill but our first responsibility for this album was to make an extraordinary album. We wanted to make an album as they were a dying species, a nearly instinct species. We said, `Let's make an album with a beginning, middle and end, and take people into a world, and so that was our first thing ... just to be challenging both of ourselves and our audience, and we succeeded with that. And maybe in that mind set you don't write a pop song, and that's probably what happened. But they're great songs, they're just not pop songs."

SUN MEDIA: What's the status on a second more ambient album, to be released from the Lanois-Eno sessions, with the working title Songs of Ascent, and then the Rick Rubin session before that?

BONO: We've got a few albums up our sleeves. We've got a whole album we started with Rick Rubin, which is a rocking club album with beats and big guitars, and I can't wait to get back to that. So we're going to see where the mood takes us. But it's not like we have to start afresh. We have five or six songs on that album. We have about 12 on the Songs Of Ascent, plus The Edge and myself have written Spiderman: The Musical — that's nearly done. It's been an incredible time as songwriters ... If you're going to go out on the road, you have to have songs that have the attitude and the ambition to play in a venue like (the Rogers Centre), because if they haven't got it, you're not going to play them because whilst we like people to look a little startled, we're not going to do a crap show just to promote our new album. So they have to be great."

SUN MEDIA: On Wednesday night on stage at Rogers, you ended the show by saying, "We're just getting started." What did you mean, given your first record came out in 1980?

BONO: The playing, just pure musicality is way ahead. And some of my singing voice. I've never had a voice like that. I only got this voice recently in the last five years. I wouldn't have been able to talk to you for instance before a show. So songwriting's come together and there's still bits we're missing, but this is our moment, it would appear. I think this might be our moment, especially if these albums come out quickly, then looking back on this period, maybe the most fertile period for our band. It's unusual for a rock and roll band, but we're not really a rock and roll band. I don't know what we are. I always say we're the loudest folk band in the world. I've had many attempts to try and explain, but we're not that classic idea that's based on youth culture and ... all the cliches of living fast to die young. I mean, we're over the '60s, I hope."

:hmm:

I'm really starting to believe that we will see SOA in 2010. And finally some more news.

Hm, possibly 12 tracks for "Songs of Ascent". I was expecting more of a 9-10 song album, who cares, I'm happy.

Quality news, this is really mouthwatering. Great way to start my Friday morning, thanks for spreading the good news!!
