Nobody else is horrified by the "I open doors so that I can shut your face/know your place" lyric in Boy/Girl then?
He was young and just looking for rhymes. Still love the live versions of the song.
Didn't get all this out of your system last night, huh?
Ooh I was expecting to read a full-on argument and meltdown when I opened this thread today. Good to see we've kept it pretty civil.
Ah I see. That's quite interesting. It lost its shock value a long time ago here, which is why we used it pretty extensively the other night. I say it every day and so do most people I know.
It's only alright to talk about U2 sporadically, with a certain degree of prompting by current events surrounding the band.
After all, every last one of us pays for forum bandwidth out of pocket.
Get your shit together, Aussies.
Yeah, it's one of the only words that still has the power to shock in 21st century America.
You guys are late to the party regarding AMAAW though, I always thought it was among the strongest tracks on that record, and have recently come to think it's the strongest. Unless you count Mercy.
Is the word cunt taboo over there or something? I say it all the time.
I think the word's still frowned upon in most contexts within most of my social circles, but it's perfectly acceptable to use if you're parodying certain aspects of Australian culture - like we were, re: far north Queensland.
Like if you want to take the piss out of xenophobic Australia, nothing makes your point better than punctuating your sentences with a thick, nasal "Straya, cunt!"
There's only one taboo word in Australia: class.
