Ha! That's awesome. I'm not sure it was that exact album, because I almost feel like it was something I contemplating getting.

I had a lot of friends into that kind of music at the time, which is interesting, because it was right around the same time I was getting into "indie" music, myself. I was just really musically impressionable at the time I guess. Anyways, I did actually like a few songs off of that Used album in the end .

The only Used song I remember is "The Taste of Ink." That shit was in heavy rotation on MTV.

Can't fool us B&C randoms. I don't think I even realized they had a midnight release for Atomic Bomb. Not sure where I was on that one. Media Play must have gone out of business not long after that. I was working at Alphagraphics, just around the corner on State st. at the time.


Edit: I'll admit to liking some of The Used songs from their first album, mainly cause I thought it was cool some degenerates I knew in Jr. High had actually made it kinda big.

I toyed with the idea of buying NLOTH at midnight (we have one local store who stays open long enough Monday nights so you can buy new releases technically on Tuesday), and then realized I'd rather sleep and could go buy it at my local Starbucks at 7 the next morning.

Want to know something funny, Bonoz2012, I went to a midnight release party for that very album because they were allowing people to pick up any other albums coming out that day at midnight. Boxer (and something else I can't remember) came out that same day.

I was the one and only person there (Graywhale in Orem, in the brief period where it wasn't terrible) not buying The Used album, and needless to say, was very out of place age / demographic / clothing / life style - wise. I remember I was on friendly terms with a girl who worked there (similar music tastes), and she kept asking who The National and Battles were, and why I wanted both so badly that I was there at midnight. Ha.

you know, i've never done this. do all hot topics usually do this for the release of some album popular with that crowd? i don't even buy that many albums on their release date (imo at least) so i don't know why i'm asking, just curiosity i guess.

Acadie and For the Beauty of Wynonna are my two favourite Lanois albums.

Mine, too. I saw him on both tours supporting those records and he was absolutely amazing, although the show for Wynonna was plagued with technical difficulties and I had the impression he was difficult to work with. The show started really late (like close to an hour late, as I recall) because he was visibly arguing with the lighting people. No one ever explained what was going on but I always thought if he was just unhappy with the lighting that was a lousy excuse to keep us waiting.

Years later when I saw him on the Shine tour, he seemed like a whole different person - quite warm and laid-back - but not nearly as exciting as he was on the earlier tours.
