Another 8hrs on the road today fighting with the iPod shuffle. I just kept hitting next until finally a song came on that lit my fire and when it did I cranked it up full blast and sang to the top of my lungs, with feeling:
LA's fine but it ain't home
New York's home but
it ain't mine no more...
I AM...I SAID
to no one there
and no one heard
at all
not even the chair

Holy shit, Pogo's coming here in October and apparently he plays all of his Youtube stuff. It's $15 a ticket and I am going to be there at all costs.

I don't know if he's ever been brought up in here, but we were talking about him in Random Movie once and I became a huge fan.

Hate on the movie all you want, but this is just wonderful:

Bangarang (Hook Remix) - YouTube

Okay, gang. I need album recommendations for the following artists.

Portishead (Third, I presume?)
Bright Eyes
Mogwai
Hypnotic Brass Ensemble
Holy Fuck
Sly and The Family Stone
Death in Vegas
The Walkmen

Portishead - Dummy
Bright Eyes - Lifted/I'm Wide Awake
Mogwai - Young Team
Sly and The Family Stone - Stand!/There's A Riot Goin' On
The Walkmen - Bows + Arrows

Don't know about the others.

Probably an unpopular opinion but for The Walkmen
You & Me > Bows & Arrows

You & Me was my favourite album the year it came out
After you listen to those, you might as well pick up Lisbon too

And I agree with the Bright Eyes recommendation, but Casadega is an underrated album. Maybe try that one too

Cobbler, why do you freaking always assume the most recent is the best?

I already answered you about Mogwai.

As far as Third is concerned, I always was under the impression, until I dove deeper, that that was the album to go to for Portishead because I just see it's name and album cover so fucking much. Just, my own observations for that one anyways.

Current men I have man-crushes on:

1. James Murphy
2. Joel McHale
3. Andre Benjamin

Yeah this was the only reason I said Third. I had forgotten about the s/t and Dummy. I'll probably just get all three though. Thanks for the suggestions at any rate people, and here's hoping there'll be nothing to clash with Portishead, Flaming Lips and The National.

I like Lisbon more than Bows + Arrows, myself, but the latter has The Rat, and the Walkmen's sound is exemplified by that record.

Third is a very strong record, but it's pretty inaccessible for a new listener.

I really am not too familiar with "The Rat". Heard it a few times, but it doesn't stick with me.

Hey JT or LM or one of you knowledgeable people, hop over to the Cover Song thread and help me out. I'm like a child who's wandered into the middle of a movie...

I'm on my fourth Mac and I've never bought AppleCare. And I've never needed it before it would have expired.

The trackpad stopped working on my PowerBook G4, but AppleCare would have run out long ago, and it's mostly retired anyway. Still works fine with a USB mouse, though.

Cool. I might go without, you still get a year warranty and 90 days phone service without it. I'm buying a "refurbished" model too, but it's $200 cheaper and I'm sure apple wouldn't sell it if it was in any way defective.
