Just got back from both shows. What an amazing weekend. I'm about to take a long and much needed nap, but wanted to clarify some things because I read through both setlist parties for the weekend.
1. We basically all lost service as soon as we went in the stadium. Hence the lack of good Mixrs and Periscopes.
2. I was at main stage both nights, and during the last few songs of the first night, we saw a crew member frantically rushing back and forth several times from the main stage to the tree. We didn't understand why until the show ended and those at the tree told us that Bono's teleprompter cut out for the last few songs. This is why we speculated the new song got cut night one, especially because it was on that night's set list.
3. The story of the line jumpers at main stage last night: There were two stories. The first was of the couple who went to the second row behind the rail. I was a few people away from them, and yes, hysteria broke out among fans. But for the record, the person who pushed them was a random drunk guy behind them who probably got caught up in the upheaval around him. Not a big U2 fan getting physical. Just a drunk. That couple was eventually escorted out because they were getting physical with those around them, and were belligerent.
There was also a lady who jumped to behind us on the rail, but she got lucky that all the craziness was happening to the line jumpers a few people away, and she didn't get nearly as much grief. I was the only person willing to talk to her calmly, and kept the fans away from her who were trying to bitch to her. I told the fans around her who were trying to get into it with her, you can tell venue security to come talk to her, but the venue will make the call on what happens to her, and we should let the venue handle her however they see fit instead of trying to crack this poor woman. (She was a BITCH though. Really rude.) At one point, I stopped a fan who was trying to argue with her by looking the fan in the eye and saying "Leave it" sternly, and she got the message and walked away.
I'm not a fan of line jumpers, but come on.
Apparently there were line jumpers at the tree stage too, but I couldn't tell ya what happened there. But PD seems to have gotten involved. We only dealt with venue security at the main stage.
4. This show really is visually spectacular. Night one though, the screen was having technical problems. During the video of the Muslim woman, (during MS I think) there was a big black block taking up a bit of the screen that kept leaving and coming back. Not good.
I do have to say, the lack of screens on both ends of the main screen is really an oversight. I can't imagine what people coming to see U2 in the stands were thinking, not being able to see a thing happening on stage. And all the visuals of the band on stage are intentionally distorted, black and white, not clear,...
I can't wait for all of you to experience this show in person. I was really blown away. Yeah, they're clearly working to resolve the set list issues they can't seem to shake off. But it's such a stunning show to watch that I don't care.
Yes, the cowgirl is Morleigh.
Black Hole Sun on Night One was astonishing. One of the most powerful concert moments I've ever experienced. Just a sea of people singing, peoples' phone lights waving. Just stunning.
I'm open for questions if anyone feels like asking!
