A shooting that erupted just before midnight Monday in Fort Worth, Texas, left at least three dead and eight others wounded, police said.

Ten of the victims are adults and one a minor, according to a news release from the Fort Worth Police Department’s homicide unit.

Officers discovered multiple people shot in a parking lot in the Horne Street area of the Como neighborhood, police said. Several victims were brought to local hospitals by private vehicles, while others were transported by ambulance, authorities said. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. (WLS) -- Tuesday marks one year since the mass shooting at Highland Park's Fourth of July Parade.

Seven people were killed in that attack and dozens of others were hurt.

Hopefully the shooter(s) of the Baltimore block party are picked up soon. It's been a few days now. Two kids dead and 28 folks injured. :(

Just giving a warning, this is very graphic and very difficult emotionally to read. Don't know how this man did that.

"After seeing the spot where my son was murdered, now more than ever I am convinced that every elected leader needs to walk through the crime scenes of mass shootings in their communities. Those in power must come down from their ivory towers to understand the implications of not prioritizing safety and security above all else.

And I must continue to explain to people that safety must come before education, because you can't teach dead kids."

I wish that the fentanyl/deadly drug crisis got just a little more of the same media interest as semi-automatic rifles (AR-15's, etc).

And, of course, more public interest in handguns in the hands of those who aren't legally allowed to own them.

Body counts should matter more. Unfortunately.

You’re in luck! The current runner up for the Republican nomination thinks the best way to solve the fentanyl crisis is to invade Mexico.

(I see and hear the fentanyl crisis talked about all the time)

Why do you need to compare them? Why can’t these two things be totally independent and equally sad things that require intervention? Entirely independently. Without comparison.

It's the fentanyl whataboutism again, isn't that the Fox News go to?

Maybe this racist piece of trash was on fentanyl. And of course we are letting too many illegals across the border, which just causes white people to do these things.

The gunman who killed three people at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday had earlier been turned away from the campus of a historically Black university – just blocks away from the site of the shooting that targeted Black people, authorities said.

The shooter, described by police as a White man in his early 20s, first went to the campus of Edward Waters University, where he refused to identify himself to an on-campus security officer and was asked to leave, the university stated in a press release.

“The individual returned to their car and left campus without incident. The encounter was reported to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office by EWU security,” the school said.

3 people dead after gunman targeted Black people in Jacksonville, Florida, officials say
The university, which is in a historically Black neighborhood, went into lockdown Saturday and students living on campus were told to stay in their residence halls.

The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, put on a bulletproof vest and mask while still on campus before he went to the nearby Dollar General, Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters told CNN’s Jim Acosta.

Armed with an AR-15 style rifle and a handgun, the gunman opened fire outside the store and then again inside, fatally shooting the three victims before killing himself, according to Waters.

Authorities have not publicly identified the victims, described as two males and one female, all of whom are Black, the sheriff said.

Investigators are now probing the gunman’s motives, history with law enforcement calls and how he obtained the firearms, Waters said, adding what is clear is that the attack targeted Black people.

“This shooting was racially motivated, and he hated Black people,” Waters said at a news conference Saturday evening.

The Jacksonville attack marked one of several shootings reported in public places in the US over two days, including near a parade in Massachusetts and at a high school football game in Oklahoma.

There have been at least 470 mass shootings in the US so far in 2023, according to the Gun Violence Archive. Like CNN, the archive defines a mass shooting in which four or more people are wounded or killed, not including the shooter.

The nation surpassed the 400 mark in July – the earliest month such a high number has been recorded since 2013, the group said.

From March For Our Lives

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

At March For Our Lives, we stand in solidarity with every victim, survivor, and person who has experienced domestic violence.

The Supreme Court is taking up a major domestic violence case next month, United States v. Rahimi, with enormous implications for the gun safety movement. In this case, the pro-NRA Court will decide whether domestic abusers have a right to own firearms under the Second Amendment.

Over the last few months, our Legal Team at March For Our Lives filed two amicus briefs about the case, joining a coalition of domestic and intimate partner violence advocacy groups urging the Court to reconsider the decision.

The following facts speak for themselves:

Abusers are FIVE times more likely to kill their victims when they have access to a gun.

Nearly 68 percent of mass shooters have a history of domestic violence.

States with the highest rates of gun ownership have a 65 percent higher rate of domestic gun homicide compared to states with the lowest rates of gun ownership.

We’re standing together with our movement partners to urge the Supreme Court to support the safety of domestic violence victims and survivors. Much like gun violence, domestic violence is an issue that impacts every community — we cannot look at preventing one form of violence without looking at the other.

At least 16 people are dead in multiple shootings in Lewiston, Maine, Wednesday night, according to multiple law enforcement sources.

Fifty to 60 people are injured in the incidents, though it's unclear how many are injured due to gunfire, the sources told CNN.

A suspect remains at large, the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office said in a post on Facebook.

"We are encouraging all businesses to lock down and or close while we investigate," the sheriff's office said earlier Wednesday evening.

The sheriff's office released images of a "suspect for identification." The person was seen holding a high-powered assault-style rifle.
