All of the sudden these new divisions don't look like they make much sense when you look at them on a map :p

Of course... it's a marketing thing.

I find it interesting the way they painted the map.

"Might be some hockey fans here."
"I know it's Canada but we can all agree there's nothing here at all."
"Yup, definitely no fans here."
"We'll just paint Florida and North Carolina because we have to."

Moving Detroit to the east is the dumbest part of the equation (which is saying a lot considering the Panthers and Lightning share a division with the likes of Buffalo, Boston, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal).

I know they want to maintian rivalries (yet as GAF points out the eliminate Det vs Chi), but a better move is put Detroit back in "B". shift NYI, NYR and NJ to "C", and shift TB, FLA and maybe Nashville to "D".(or better yet leave Nashville in "B" so there's an even 15-15 split east vs west) Works much better geographically, keeps most of the rivalries in tact in divisions.
Obviously they are assuming FLA and TB will end up in Quebec City and Hamilton or someplace in a couple years and then it won't be as geographically f'ed up, but for now its pretty stupid.

Moving Detroit to the East wasn't dumb. Now you've got a regular Piitsburgh, Philly, NYR, etc matchup versus Detroit. Detroit has been wanting in the East for some time now. In short sight you might not think it makes sense... it absolutely does in the long run.

As for Florida/Tampa, that's about as ignorant of a conclusion as they come.

Not so sure about that. I didn't think Winnipeg would get a team again, but somehow it happened.

Anyway, this realignment talk makes me miss the old days of the Wales and Campbell Conferences.

You're not so sure of that because you don't know the situation. The Panthers parent company, SSE, is a productive company that turns a positive.

When the BB&T Center opened in 2000 they signed on for a 30 year lease to be operating the venue. They signed a pretty kickass lease that allows them to rake in profits from their concerts and whatnot, but they need to keep the Panthers to be the sole tenant of the building.

They've got a sweet deal. There's no reason for the Panthers to move. Well, at the very least I guarantee you that this team will outlast the life of this division.

That's great and all, but could you give me the lowdown on the Lightning. They were probably more of the focus of my uncertainty.

The Lightning are in this division because the Panthers are in this division and its an in state rivalry. Both Florida teams are in this division because they reap the benefits of sharing a division with Montreal and Toronto which bolsters their local economies and sells tickets. They suffer from matches vs Carolina or Washington.

The notion that those two teams were put in the division in anticipation of moving them to Canada is ridiculously ignorant. They were put in this division to help them, not to move them.

"Okay, once more, where are we going?"
"To Capitol City."
"And why are you and the old lady in the car?"
"We're gonna talk Armin Tamzarian into coming back."
"Well why is Marge here?"
"I came up with the idea."
"Then, why am I here?"
"Because the streets of Capitol City are no place for three unescorted ladies."
"Why are the kids here?"
"Because we couldn't find Grandpa to sit for them."
"Well why is Grandpa here?"
"'cos Jasper didn't wanna come by himself."
"Fair enough."

Disgusting. Puck nowhere in sight.

Kopecky tends to piss a lot of opponents off. He scored on Vokoun a while back playing against Washington, and Vokoun punched him in the head. Clearly he did something to piss Nash off... no excuse for this though.

Kopecky is one of my favorite players. Other than his occasional attempts at selling calls that piss me off, I love is style of play.

Of course, I didn't get to watch this game because NHL Gamecenter won't work for me. I'm not being blacked out. They just tell me to subscribe even though I already have paid it off on my account a month ago. I called about it and I get the same douchebag on the phone all four times and he keeps telling me "I can't do anything about it." and offers me no solution other than to "go resubscribe." Claimed that I was issued a refund on March 1st (not true, bank statements prove it), yet will not give me a number to fax statements to. Insists that the bank must call him, but banks don't do outgoing calls. Refuses to call the bank-merchant line to verify the transaction. Finally I was able to set up a three way call, and a mixup of entering debit card numbers, etc. got really messy. The bank automated system hung up on me, and get this... the customer service representative tried to steal my identity. Some fucking system they have running there. He pretended to be a banker and asked me for my social security and credit card number! I called back in hopes of having someone else answer the line and he did it twice! How fucking ridiculous is that! NHL.com, a reputable site. One customer service representative and he's a con artist. What the fucking fuck.

I'm kind of torn on these Kiprusoff rumours...

On one hand, if it aint broke, why fix it? Is a 3rd round pick worth a rental and what exactly does he have left in the tank?

On the other hand, our current goalie combo have a combined amount of 0 games playoff experience, so there's that..

Hmmm...
