Series trophy stolen, glued to Camaro hood
The Daily Heckle, Friday, January 13, 2006
He was only in possession of it for eight hours, say authorities, but that was long enough for White Sox fan Peter Pulicki to visit a dozen bars with the 2005 World Series trophy affixed to the hood of his white Chevrolet Camaro Iroc-Z.
"What a rush," said Pulicki, speaking from jail. "It was the greatest night of my life. A few weeks behind bars are a small price to pay for being part of White Sox history."
Pulicki's joy ride began outside Jimbo's Lounge, where the longtime Sox fan used a lead pipe to assault White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko and his private security escort. Pulicki then absconded with the World Series hardware.
"I felt bad jumping Paulie, but I just had to know what it felt like to be a winner," he said. "After welding the trophy onto my Iroc, I hit the town feeling like a baseball god."
Authorities say Pulicki, a part-time UPS package handler, attempted to use the trophy to lure at least six women into the back of his Camaro. They all refused.
"He was bragging about how he had something to show me in the parking lot," said Megan Ballington, a waitress at Hooters. "First of all, I've heard that before. Second of all, an oversized hood ornament doesn’t change the fact he had an overbite and way too much exposed chest hair."
