Dammit! Merc, you're a science/medicine person, any idea what type of mold we're dealing with? I just posted a photo of the swabbed samples in the agar plate at 48 hours. Well, here it is again for you. You can't tell in this photo, but the edges of some of the moldy thingies are starting to turn black
plate10-27-06.jpg

(the big black marks are my writing in Sharpie on the bottom which room the sample is from)

The HVAC plate looks like one spore is starting to grow, not large enough to photograph, but I guess that means the mold is coming through our heating system.

:yikes:

Thanks, Merc. I'll take some more pictures if it starts to mature, or whatever. Right now it all looks like green and pink fuzz, which is a little odd since it came from swabs of mold that is black and not really fuzzy.

I'm not sure if the large spots on the ceiling are actually mold, or just watermarks left from a spill above us.

The black mold surrounds each window and so far I haven't seen it growing anywhere else. I know exactly why this is: our windows have metal frames. Right now, it's freezing temps outside and 75 inside. None of the windows have storm windows. I dunno if you're familiar with a "storm window" or not, but in places like Michigan, when it gets cold you actually take out your screens and put in a second layer of glass to help insulate the house. Since we've got metal frames and only a single layer of glass, the frames are constantly condensing. I don't think any water is actually leaking in, it's forming inside of the apartment.

Also, since we live on the "ground" floor, we're actually mostly underground, so there's not a lot of ventilation, not any really. There's two floors of apartments above us.

I'm wondering if the toxicity may not be so much of a problem, but maybe I am allergic to mold? It doesn't seem to bother Phil, but I feel sick all the time. My eyes feel dry and itchy. I'd like to have an allergy test and see if there's something I can take continuously for this, but I don't have health insurance (or money) at the moment.

You're welcome - anytime!

Your explanation with the windows and the lack of ventilation sounds like it could very well be the root of the problem!

I really hope you can get it fixed as soon as possible, so that you (or Phil) don't get more sick! If you get rid of the mould/fungus and make sure your home is dry and ventilated, I'm pretty sure your symptoms will go away and you will not need any medicine - but in any case, an allergy test would be a good thing! It is in cases like this I :madwife: at the American health care system, cos there no doubt that you should have that test done now, so that you have a document that prove that it is actually the mould/fungus that is making you sick (if your renting your apartment a document like that might get the management to act faster)!

On a brighter note, I was at the Bruce Springsteen concert last night, my first but certainly not last concert with him! :D Wauh, that was some gig! :hyper: I only know two men that can get "Parken", our national stadium, to gospel songs and psalms - Bono... and Bruce! If everyone wasn't  already, his "Get your Danish ass up of your Danish seat!"-comment certainly did the trick! Here's the setlist if anyone is interested... :)

We have to move to a new building. It's not voluntary, but I'm fed up with either feeling like shit or being completely doped all the time anyway.

I'm sorry, but I hope you'll be happy in your new home!

 I always think of Ellen when I see Bond movies on the cable guide.

And Kristie, I lived with Ellen for 3.5 years and I've STILL never seen a bond movie!

How in the world have you all managed NOT to see any Bond films!?!?!?!

It's a travesty, I tell you! *shakes fist* Especially you, Lies

If they show Goldfinger during the Thanksgiving marathon, you should all watch it! It's one of my faves :D

I've *listened* to them, but I couldn't recite any lines or know anything about the plots :reject:

I don't think Ellen's coming home for Thanksgiving, which is sad. Maybe we should all send her a care package so she can at least enjoy the Bondathon?

Do you expect me to talk?

No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die...

:nerd: :reject:

And, since we're on the Bond topic - random Bond-fact of the Day: In Casino Royale, the bad guy (Le Chiffe) is Danish... :hyper: :D So, that would be the explanation for his strange English accent! :reject:

and now I am watching a bond movie, heh.

and my mommy wants to see a video of laura playing the guitar with the U2... anybody know where I might find something like that?

it was... um.. ok, I can't remember
we only watched it for a little bit
one of the ones with whatshisname... all I can think of is roger daltry, and I know that's not right.

and I didn't know laura had a myspace page

So, I just visited the main page of PLEBA accidentally (I hardly ever go in there anymore, sadly) and saw that RSOC is still going! They're on meeting #256 or something like that.... I remember meeting #10

You know what as well... my 5 YEAR interference anniversary is coming up at the end of this month. how time flies...

anyway...

Kristie, I have a video I took from standing like 3 feet away. I don't know if I have it uploaded though (it's like 400MB).

Hi I'm still alive! kind of. for a short while.

BOND! BOND BOND BOND! :hyper:
I can't believe I don't know anyone in the greater DC area who wants to go with me. :grumpy:
How long are movies usually in theatres? i.e. will I be able to see it in GR in mid-December? Probably not, right? Damn.

I want Daniel Craig to be my friend. :shifty: Maybe if I ask real nice.

I love that the Queen went to the London premiere.

(How hard do you have to try not to pass out while shaking the Queen's hand?)

Lies, I can't believe you've never seen a Bond movie. It's not possible. And it's also a travesty. You too, Kristie! Though you have more of an excuse since you've never had to live with me. :D

So how's it going everyone? Fill me in!

Looks like he's about to fall over! And the Queen looks so chic! I want to be able to wear gloves like that :D

Um... Ellen, if you wanted to come to Boston, you could see the film with me :) I'm gonna have to give up and just go find a movie theatre, I can't live without movies anymore!
